The Mexican housemates I lived with were super chill and they shared some of their delicious food on occasions. They were super racist towards Guatemalans and Central Americans in general which I found pretty funny.
I am curious, please describe it.
Mexico shares a lot with Italy besides the flag and delicious cuisine.
Corruption is so rampant it’s part of almost every facet of life. I already posted this a couple of times but there are two phrases that are pretty much taught since childhood.
“El que no tranza, no avanza.” Very Mexican way to say “you won’t go up the ladder without cheating.”
“La Ley de Herodes. O te chingas o te jodes.” Translates to “Herod’s Law. Fuck or be fucked.”
Think of every facet of corruption in your country. Mexico doesn’t even try to hide it. They are so corrupt they can’t get out of their own way on shit they care about like football.
They love to sing and dance about how they aren’t racist while using negro and Indio as slurs.
The aforementioned smugness towards Central America despite the fact most refugees from those parts end up in pits at the border with no one caring, and now Mexico is being outdone because those countries are doing shit to stop narcos.
Patriotism lives and dies in September. Most Mexicans shun Mexican stuff that isn’t food. Big cities are being gentrified to make gringos happy. Smaller cities are becoming even bigger sweatshops than before.
What disgusts me the most is the general attitude towards sexualizing children tho. Acapulco Kids anyone? Where do you think mutt and Canuck paedos go? NAFTA did wonders for this industry. Think is only a couple of foreign pervs? There’s a cumbia song called 17 años you can hear at quinceañeras and you can look at what Sergio Andrade or the Televisa catalogue mean for the entertainment industry.
I would love to tell you these are one offs and most people are good. A lot of them are. But a lot of them don’t do shit about it.
