Microsoft has quietly announced they’ll stop selling Windows 10 licenses this month.


The software giant announced that they’ll be ending the sale of downloads for their older operating system by the January 31, 2023.

The news was confirmed via a note at the bottom for those looking to download and buy Windows 10 Home or Pro.

Microsoft released their latest operating system, Windows 11 back towards the end of 2021. It’s no secret that adoption of the new software is slow, as roughly 68% of all users are still on Win10.

Of course Microsoft wants people to jump onto their latest product, and Windows 10 is expected to end support on October 14, 2025.

This will mainly affect those who are either currently not on Windows 10 or plan on building a brand new PC in the future, as those who have it installed on their computers will still have normal access.

The company’s move will only serve to push more users onto Windows 11 as Microsoft hopes to improve the adoption rate.
 
How am I not surprised? Windows 10 (maybe 7, it depends) is probably the best piece of shit that Microsoft put out. I used to run Windows for certain things, but I've dropped that shit entirely. Switched over to Manjaro the second they started forcing me to Win11. It sucks, what can you expect though?
 
I noticed last night I got an update icon on my computer with a blue dot saying it was ready to upgrade to windows 11 tonight while sleeping, glad I saw it and disabled it so it wouldn’t pull that shit like they did years ago with windows 8

Welcome to 2013, get with the times or be trampled. This shit is nothing new sadly.

Been dailying Linux for 6 years and I only use win 10 for a few games that don't work and for racing sims due to hardware support. Not "upgrading" to 11 ever for any reason. Either Linux will support it by then or I'll cut my losses.
 
Windows 11 has hardware requirements that aren't even based on performance. It's based on having a TPM 2 chip which is used to spy on you more and take more control away from you. They are literally forcing you to buy a new computer to have a less free machine, just to run Windows 11.

Microsoft are niggers.
 
Well, like with going 7 to 10 I'm planning on holding out as long as I can. Maybe upgrade once I build a new PC in a few years, and people have figured out how to break Win11 to make it more workable like they did with 10.
 
Imagine if they'd done this with Windows 7 and XP when Windows 8 came out.

They have been so desperate to get me to upgrade to 11 they've been trying to bribe me which uhh makes me suspicious. Sooner or later they'll sneak in a handy 'lil update like they did for 7 and take away the agency for you. What you didn't want to upgrade? Well we thought you did despite you clicking no every day we ask. We just made it easier for you.

It's the Windows way, every second OS release is garbage and reviled by most:
98, great; 2000/Me, hated and notoriously buggy.
XP is still used in a lot of PCs today; Vista was so bad even garbage TV shows like The Big Bang Theory made fun of it.
Windows 7 is the greatest OS ever made, then 8 is the same but worse with an awful, AWFUL tablet UI shoehorned in.
10 is just 7 again, 11 is another ugly redesign no-one asked for ala 8 with stupidly high requirements ala Vista.

Basically wait til Windows 12.
