Microsoft is trialing ads in Windows Explorer itself - drink verification can to continue

>Still in Windows using a laptop for college
>Windows puts ads in next update
>Still can't buy parts for new computer
>Still haven't learnt Linux

I'm not gonna make it am I frens?
Just use these tools and remove the foul shit in Windows.

For all it's misgivings, Windows still has an avenue for users to control the operating system. Microsoft is skilled at the illusion of removing control from the user, but Microsoft has never actually made it impossible to manipulate the OS. Windows still has command prompt and all of the other grandfathered utilities in Windows 11. So while it seems like Windows is intrusive, I believe it's only intrusive for people who know enough about Windows to be dangerous yet not know enough to wrest true control of their privacy.

So I heard about this Ads in File Explorer bs, and even though it's just "an internal thing"... nah, fuck that noise. They were 100% intending to do that before the bad publicity hit them.

I've done a neat little thing.

I dual booted Linux Mint & Windows 10. Daily driving Mint, and just gonna use Windows 10 for when I want games. Tons of services off, or even blocked entirely. Can't completely avoid Windows for gaming just yet.

But that's not the neat thing yet.

I also installed a Windows 10 VM in Mint, using this thing I stumbled across called VFIO. Basically, passing direct hardware access to the VM for a massive performance boost.

Because I intend to daily drive Linux, but I really really need Windows for some specific apps or programs for work (also with a ton of stuff turned off).

So when I'm not gaming I'm running Linux, but if I need my tools, I spin my VM., giving me the advantage of both at the same time.

I wish I could ditch Windows entirely but right now this setup gives me everything I need. As more things continue to get better with Linux, the more comfortable I'll be with getting rid of Windows entirely.

VFIO, BTW, is a bitch to setup. Totally worth it for my specific use cases, but holy fuck was some effort needed to understand exactly what was required.

Honestly, splitting it up like this has been working well for the past week or two. And its been keeping me from getting distracted too; so imo: win/win.

As if MS isn't already intrusive with its telemetry and shit. Now they're not even trying to hide it anymore.

This, and tools such as W10Privacy and Windows Privacy Dashboard gives you control in cutting out some of Windows 10's egregious features. W10Privacy also has some useful notes as to what effect of disabling a particular feature would ensue.
