Normal western music divides the octave into 12 equally spaced notes.
But there's other options, like 22 notes, which can make brand new sounds and moods you didn't know were possible.
It's somewhat of an acquired taste though, if you're only used to the western system.
Here's my favorite examples. EDO means # divisions of the octave.
