Why I Rarely Answer Media Inquiries from the “Prestige Press”
If you’re a media person I blow off, blame your colleagues for asking boring questions and ruining it for everyone.

This, for example, was a question from the BBC:

Also what are your thoughts about the suggestion that Sandy Hook was a manufactured event and the parents of the children were really actors?
I’ve never written about Sandy Hook. Why ask that question of me? The guy kept emailing me asking why I wouldn’t answer him. Because it’s a stupid f-cking question, that’s why.

Look, here’s the reality.

Most people are desperate for media. They send press releases. They beg media to attend their events.

Do not come at me like I’m most people. I don’t need to see my name quoted in the Basic B-tch Channel (BBC). I’ve been in all the big newspapers, they’ve even run profiles on me. There’s no rush or excitement for me.

You must be interesting or I won’t talk to you.
Your network means f-ck-all to me.

Here is my reality. My events sell out. I have never sent out a press release or bought an advertisement. I blow off most media.

My Twitter does over 150,000,000 impressions a month. I sell more books in a month than most authors every do in a lifetime.

Unless you’ve done some homework, don’t waste my time or YOUR time.
Why bother sending an email knowing I won’t answer it? Your time is your life. Spend it wisely.

I have three books out. Read one of them.

Traditional media coverage does not move the needle for me.

That was cool, a nice line item for life, but I don’t seek out TV appearances and generally prefer spending my time building up my many highly-watched and read platforms.

Traditional media doesn’t serve any use for me, but if you’re interesting, we can talk. Otherwise, nah.

probably because you're on InfoWars all the time, Mike. it would also be fair to ask about Building 7, whether you associate the phrase "Fast and Furious" with Vin Diesel or with how Obama's going to take our guns, the sexual orientation of frogs, and your water filter preferences.

Oh gosh, look who finally figured out Thernovich is 1 part self-aggrandizer and 1 part spineless lisper.

I kept trying to tell those people, no false gods, only Trump. Milo Yiannopolis, Cernovich, Mitchell, etc. All of them are of zero substance and 100% fluff. Scott Adams is the only one I listen to because he has a unique perspective and seems 10 steps ahead of everyone else, and not one step behind.

Woah, a PUA sales-men is found out not to be the most credible and scrupulous. Thank god I only take my personal and political advice from used car salesmen, alternative doctors, the good folks over at amway and the local schizophrenic who hangs around the bus stop screaming about 'freemasons'.

Anyone know much about Mikes ex-wife Nair-

Is Flores her maiden name?

How did they meet?

Is it true he made most of his money off of alimony due to splitting some tech stock w/ her or did he practice law for many years to build his income independence he likes to brag about on the Internet?

I've listened to his early show podcasts and he's really mysterious about this ex-wife mystery woman when he liked to be much more of an open book to try to sell himself to you in the early days of his show.

Some have said he cheated on her while they were married too-
I'm not saying that's true (so it's just an Internet rumor to me until proven otherwise) and he is a public figure.

My guess is since she is said to be a prominent lawyer with a lot of connections, Mike doesn't want to rock the boat too much with her and get sued by talking too much trash about her in public (which we know he talks a lot of trash in general and has piggy backed off of this stupid election and tin foil hat fear porn King extraordinaire Alex Jones to get followers on social media) regardless of how he feels about her now.

Back during GG, Cernovich was pretty notoriously borderline-lolcow. Like even the spergs who liked watching the rage he caused shitheads like Margaret Pless realized he was a self-aggrandizing fuckwit who ultimately was going to crash and burn like the fucking Hindenburg, and who had an ego bigger than New York state.

When he started out, he had a pretty big following, one supported by just how badly Anti-GGers lost their shit over him (Pless swatting his ass, most notably), but it bled off damned quickly. Within a few months it was clear he'd bite at pretty much any bait, especially that which /pol/ threw his way (my favorite being when he challenged several Anti-GG randos to a fucking fistfight), and any goodwill he had by helping GG in the first place was gone by March of 2015.

Pretty telling that even the GG spergs couldn't tolerate his shit for very long.

I went for months thinking that the guy was satirizing MRAs, particularly when he challenged the "bring back bullying" Gawker guy to a fight.

@AnOminous, Cernovich's defense lawyer against Mike Furie's Pepe the Frog DMCA complaint are Randazza. Immediately recognized the font, which should be a serif font, and the fact it's not pisses me off.

In general, I agree and am not a fan of creative or flashy fonts in legal documents or even correspondence (Courier New and Times New Roman ftw!) but Randazza makes it work. It's sort of like Saul Goodman's wardrobe as fonts for legal work go.

I wish him luck on this. In general, I'm for expansion of fair use. I think this particular use is fairly questionable, though, and would be a lot more defensible if Cernovich's activities weren't at least in part commercial. Commercial use doesn't automatically mean it isn't fair use of course (Leibovitz v. Paramount was a case where the Naked Gun was advertised with a parody of her Vanity Fair cover of Demi Moore pregnnat and was fair use despite being commercial), but it's generally important to the "nature of the use" and "market impact" prongs of the test.

The issue really comes down to whether the use is actually a parody of the original material or somehow a transformative use, rather than just an appropriation. For instance, do you think Disney would put up with using Mickey Mouse to represent and advertise for your business? They'd curbstomp you. Furie obviously isn't Disney but he has the same rights they do.

The fact the use is offensive isn't really even relevant. Campbell v. Acuff-Rose, of course, is the leading parody case, and involved 2 Live Crew's parody of the Roy Orbison song "Oh, Pretty Woman." The fact that it was gross, obscene and offensive was actually part of why it actually was a parody.

I don't think the case for fair use is as clear as Randazza does, although his bravado is charming and, quite possibly, will prompt Furie and his cohort of virtue signaling lawyers to seek easier prey, especially considering Cernovich wisely removed the material in question.

What's the deal with Wilmer Hale, weren't they Zoe Quinn's hired guns of choice too? Do they specialize in SLAPP suits or something?

They're a combination of what used to be Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering with Hale and Dorr, and are basically a megafirm. Both of those firms were also monster white shoe firms of the Northeast.

They are well known for pro bono work, and to some extent, protecting a relatively poor artist from infringement fits into that, but they really seriously seem to be overreaching here. This is approaching Church of Scientology level copyright bullying.

Also, needless to say, their involvement in the Chelsea van Valkenberg case was an outright assault on the First Amendment and not remotely in the public interest, as pro bono cases should be. That was like calling defending the Exxon Valdez disaster "pro bono publico."

ETA: Randazza appears to use a number of flashy and modern sans-serif fonts, including Century Gothic and Roboto. I'm not sure what he was using in this one, though. He seems to like Futura-influenced fonts, which shows good taste (if you like Wes Anderson movies he used to use that almost exclusively for his credits and other text).

Free speech? Did the government censor anyone?
After denying Milo the use of any sound system, the police barred any press from entering the enclosure in which Milo/Cern/Geller were speaking. At the moment I'm still not sure if Milo left Sproul Plaza of his own volition or at the behest of police.

This is somewhat double irksome because footage shows RefuseFascism.org/BAMN twits were on a PA for hours just outside the event. It does bring into (further) question Milo's commitment though... they should have just sent someone out to pick up a portable PA/bullhorn and just done the shit on the sidewalk. For under $1000 dollars one could slap together a fully portable PA in an hour.

Also, there are federal laws against private citizens engaging in intimidation to prevent others from exercising their Constitutional rights.

42 U.S.C. § 1985(3) to be precise.

So the little bitch should sue. Preferably with a better lawyer than the juice gorilla.
Yup. There's another one for individuals, but it refers to services and privileges administered or protected by the Feds and doesn't specifically mention rights, so I wasn't sure if it applies.
