i'm overhyping it to get more activity in the thread so i can share my Mike David secrets. but its at the chicago live show. Thats one of the most "revealing/insane" episodes of redbar too. You can't not listen to that and not realize Mike was molested. Its also an audio only show. people like sharing pics of his mom instead because she's hot. typical fat titty jewess, total bimbo. Crazy story how those two got together

She was dating someone else but hooked up with Mike's dad who stole her away from the other guy, she's like the perfect old school 1950s housewife too, which is crazy because Mike's dad works at a mall and was super cheap. but he was insanely tall and handsome IIRC. Mike's mom went to Maine south high school and was born in 55 and she really drilled into her kids the importance of cooking, cleaning, and decorating which is why Mike comes off like such a fag. Especially in the 2000s era episodes everyone really got fag vibes from mike and thats another big reason he didn't have a lot of friends, especially in the comedy community because while he acted like a priss he was also extremely homophobic because of his dad.

A fun fact about Mike's mom is that according to Mike, she would listen live to every episode, she was too stupid to understand the jokes but she did always listen in. the dad really drilled into his kids the need to keep the pimphand strong too, like she never drives, the dad drives them both wherever. He's the only one insured on their one car too. Another fun thing about the dad is he really tried getting Mike to quit redbar after the takeover. "why not just work at staples" he said, and Mike constantly brings that up in the post-takeover episodes, and during his worst times financially admitted his dad was right.

Having said that despite Mike's dad being the original PUA style redpilled man, the parents relationship was solid. Mike said he never saw them fight ever and openly stated he envied his parents relationship. They really prove how easy it was for straight edge boomers too. the wife never had a job (women's aren't supposed to work according to mr.david) and just through being absurdly cheap and the natural housing values they were able to live a pretty good life once the kids moved out.

thats why mike sort of feels like a guy who's 60. his parents were old school too, his dad absolutely hated how effeminate Mike was and was pissed when mike dyed mike's hair pink and mike's oppositional nature led to mike dying mike's hair different colors every week up until mike was kicked out of the house. Mike's dad also pretty much kicked out mike's sweet younger brother when he was 19/20 (he moved in with mike in the city) and he didn't pay for either kid to go to college. the wife never had a real job and just stayed at home, the vacations were cheap too. literally just staying at the best western (a motel) right next to a water park (wisconsin dells) Then they "retired" to a community in Wauconda, IL right on the lake. Mike says his relationship with his parents has improved since moving out (at 16 technically) but i think a lot of that is because the parents weren't responsible (legally) for him anymore and now they didn't have to play the disciplinarian as much. They did all share a cell phone family plan up until the mid/late 2010s. Mike has stories about visiting for holidays and being able to drink and smoke weed with his parents, but you can tell from his stories about his childhood he had a somewhat messed up childhood. He was obsessed with incest for quite a few years in a rather unhealthy way. And the way he talks about his grandparents and uncle who'd baby sit him for a huge chunk of his childhood is odd. He openly said he didn't feel anything when they died despite everyone in the family talking about him being closer to them than his actually parents throughout his childhood.

a lot of the 2000s era redbar episodes had Mike's brother dan david on them because they were roommates. Hes the normal one by a long shot. not much more to say beyond him being a lot taller and normal and he gets laid a lot more. Mike was in relationships with several women that had fucked Dan previously. And while you might think thats creepy, just wait till you hear about Mike's love for a woman also named Dan, her jewish parents breaking them up (they didn't want her being with a guy 3+ years older who never had a "real job" and was just a bum) is a huge reason Mike became anti-Semitic and got closer to sven and embracing "that type of audience" I'm not even joking. Sven calling in suggesting Mike watch 500 days of summer and trying to cheer him up post-break up is what led to Mike treating him like more than "the other loser fans" before then Mike openly hung up on him and would temp ban him from the chat. he even bitched Sven out when Sven suggested going after NLO/Patrick Melton which is exactly what Mike did a few years later and led to the fools watching people know and love mike for today.

Speaking of Sven, what do people think about him getting close enough to Jesse PS to stream on his youtube channel? it seems pretty obvious Mike isn't "friendly" with him especially considering Mike didn't even shill his kickstarter. Sven said on that episode on Jesse PS' stream that he hasn't spoken to Mike in years. I would guess they haven't really spoken since the last Svenweek.

It's actually funny, I went and listened to the episode you mentioned the other day and sort've agreed about your thoughts on Mike and his need to have co-hosts that he can mimic at the time. I then went and listened to the Sven co-hosted episode from 2/7/14 as it was the first episode after the one you mentioned with video. It was kind of amazing to listen to as Sven is saying the same kinds of things and making the same kinds of jokes 10 years ago as he is today. Whereas Mike gets super defensive and starts whinging about how Sven is really racist and he can't be friends with him anymore. It was ver gay imo. It's wild that they were friends for so long when Mike clearly hated aspects of Sven's humor.

The whole Sven and Jesse thing makes me sad. Jesse and Mike do similar shows and have similar levels of integrity. I always assumed the feud was a "wink" to the audience that Mike needs to constantly feud with people, but it's gone on too far. Mike's feud with Jesse is a waste of bandwidth and allowing the BBG to go after Sven for daring to appear on his show was a missed opportunity for Mike to let some shit slide and maybe send an olive branch to old friends.

Of all people, fucking Steeltoe had the best take on the Sven/Mike feud in response to the Lossless call to Sven. As much as I like Mike as the Judge/Jury/Executioner of the Internet, he takes it all too seriously and it's hurt the show. It also doesn't allow him the possibility of mending fences with people to whom he doesn't need to be hostile. The Symposium should've been an opportunity to go back to a less structured approach more often, but he hasn't revisited the concept.

And I wish Mike reigned in the BBG from making him appear so fucking gay.

thats a great episode because Mike semi-learns his place during that ep, the audience really lashed out at him and he saw how bad episodes were that didn't follow Sven's line of thinking. Even the clay akian stuff in that episode feels like something almost from today except without the sound board. Just literally riffing on fools and if you notice its Sven that brings up the stuff like body language and microexpressions and everything else, mike was still trying to be mr.goof a lot of the time. the other episodes in 2014 can sometimes be a struggle because Mike is trying all these different ideas and cohosts and Sven and Cameron are really the only ones he can vibe with. he didn't fully absorb Sven yet so he had a lot of shitty episodes that year.

Mike also talks about hating his fanbase and i'm sure its true, you could blatantly see it way back during the call in days that he really thought you're a fucking loser if you "were a fan of a podcast" and he clearly thought less of you if you ever paid him a dime. Sven was Mike's hero because he truely didn't listen much and didn't pay mike money. Mike fucking hates paypigs, look at how he treated Rene Deambrosio, she gave in total 100k to mike and he treated her like crap. Beyond that the audience up until the last 6 years or more were still people that agreed with Sven's opinions and Mike apparently has grown out of that. Mike even said on an episode last year back when he mocked trannies and gays it was cool but now "you people" are doing it therefore its cringe.

Mike got most of his popularity the last 5 years from the anti-Rogan crowd who typically hate Joe for his opinions on cancel culture or politics. While Mike will go after people regardless of politics, most of his recent episodes are about "acceptable targets" to the point that him and Tim Hiedecker end up going after the same people a lot of the time.

as far as Mike david is concerned he is the embodiment of dirtbag left, also Mike's newer fans are a lot younger which is why he's covering more youtubers and talking about "the backrooms" or other zoomer stuff a lot more. There was a time when mike was so ignorant of modern culture or music that he didn't know there were white rappers besides eminem or macklamore. Thats a big reason The Die was so routinely mocked, Mike was stuck in 1999 musically but decided to try and make a 12 track edgy hardcore rap album, not knowing people like Das Racsit or a fuckload of other white/jewish dudes were doing the exact same gimmick at the time.

Mike David always hated what he considered show clones and openly went after shows he felt was too close to ripping off his show and that usually meant going after superfans or former friends or cohosts. Jesse PS is the one that usually put out the olive branch. You can listen to that clip that dude posted a few pages back. Jesse was perfectly fine with their shows being similar but Mike's the one that couldn't stand being considered on the same level of someone he felt was beneath him. Mike even admits he can only feel good if he's above other people and if people aren't fans of his he spirals hard when trying to interact. He spent most of 2012 actively suicidal because he couldn't even warp reality enough for himself to believe he was the elite guy he usually feels himself to be.

if you go to the august 1 2011 episode of redbarradio you can see how Mike David acts when he's got power over people. Mike was always a legend in his own mind and just felt people didn't realize he was right about that yet. And you can really see how Mike feels when given a hint of criticism on that episode. Mike abuses his power all the time. "i hate people" -Mike David around 2.31.00 on that episode.

Mike David absolutely hates working with people too, Melton tried also as hard as Kyle to not be on Mike's bad side. Its only because of the last decade that redbar is considered the better show than Nobody likes Onions, Melton's show up until 2015 was the obvious better show and if Mike gave up in 2014 people would only talk about him being a rip off of NLO.

its the opposite my friend, the BBG kept mike from embracing his faggotry. Like i said Mike always feels himself the king others should grovel to. But you can still see picks in the BBG and she's in a fuckload of mid-2010s episodes on her skype. And while co-host she's appeared multiple times. She's a lot better than you'd expect Mike to get. My favorite thing about her is that Mike clearly is only attracted to her because he had such a huge crush on his partner (business) Kyle lane. On the few episodes Mike still has up of Kyle it sometimes feels like you're just hearing Jules with a headcold their relationship was that weirdly romantic.

@Get the rope Macaulay! Thanks for all the context. I'm a new era (s18-) Redbar clip and free ep watcher and while I don't have a long history following Mike I'm from the area and so all the context in this thread is quite interesting.

Somewhere in this thread someone mentioned how the Redbar Comedy Club was a promotion that took place in a nightclub before the actual club opened and that jogged my memory and made me realize I attended a few times. I remember looking up the location for the show and finding a dress code and checking my outfit to make sure I was OK (dress codes are standard for a nightclub, I didn't fully realize that those rules probably didn't apply to a comedy show taking place before they turned down the lights and put up the velvet ropes and such.)

Knowing that Mike's mom went to Maine South high school is so telling. The town it's in, Park Ridge, seceeded from the city so it could have its own restrictive liquor laws and hoity-toity public school system and to this day it's an insular bastion of rich bitches in mcmansions who do the whole keeping up with the joneses thing like it's still the 50s. Hillary Clinton graduated from mshs. Of course being so close to the city that also means kids with affluent parents and lots of spending money who drive drunk to the city to pick up H and crack, nowadays there's a huge opioid problem. Moms in that area fancy themselves Real Housewives types and so I can see Mike's mom being a fastidious decorator and hostess who influenced her son to be a bit of a queen, and I can see Mike being the kid with the permissive parents and spending money who ends up playing punk rock to the cagrin of his parents.

I'm inclined to believe that Mike isn't lying and did actually attend Elan School. From what I've heard recruiters for Elan would find parents with kids who got in trouble a lot, in the vein of the kids for cash scandal. This kind of thing still goes on with the troubled teen industry, recruiters are paid and judges are bribed to supply kids for these shady programs. I can see a recruiter active in that area pitching Mike's parents. I've heard some claim that Mike stole the Elan story from his friend, which I think means Ben Weasel from the Chicago burbs punk band Screeching Weasel who is also known to have attended Elan. If there was a recruiter active in that area for 5-10 years or so I can see both Ben and Mike being shipped off to Elan.

its insane for a late era guy to say that, because Mike was actually a few years after that. Mike was super into chicago punk rock but he was also the youngest dude there at every show. Mike talked about having long conversations back in '06 with Kyle Kinane about local punk rock and that should be weird because of a 5 year age difference. Mike even talked about rough it was being at the tail end of the 90s punk rock revival and being the last guy still into it at his school before Elan.

lol, Mike's set in his ways he won't be doing that. Mike does one episode every two weeks if we're lucky and that means he catches up on all his podcasts before the episode ends inbetween the breaks, the songs, and the tangents that don't go anywhere. Mike almost never talked about his life in the old days whereas now its what the first hour of his show is about every time. In terms of real content, post year break mike is abysmal. You're paying $11 a month for a 7 hour episode because the other one is free. You said you're a season 18 starting redbar guy right? well he did more episodes in season 18 than he's done since. And half those fucking episodes are free.

Also while the episodes might be 7 hours, one of those will be spent on music and breaks another hour will be spent going over what Mike's been doing since the last episode, another episode will be about what the viewers have been doing. By the time you get to actual content you're looking at 4 hours max for a given episode, and mike spents an hour bisecting the episodes so anything outside of his regular stable of fools is not going to happen.

Really enjoying your posts, @Get the rope Macaulay! -- you know a lot more about the show than I do, and I've listened on and off for more than 12 years at this point.

I originally came to the show through NLO, which Mike used to hang around and call into before he "went to war' with the host, Patrick Melton and ended up taking his schtick. The Internet radio world used to feel a lot smaller in those days, so everyone was at least aware of other shows and their fanbases.

Funny enough, I remember it being Sven and Cameron that originally went after Melton and NLO and Mike was kind of a pussy about it. Sven got drunk and just went after Melton hard and Mike kept trying to talk him down. After he found out how popular that take was and how many of his fans were tired of NLO, he jumped on the bandwagon and never looked back... that's how I remember it, anyway.

Since you know so much lore, @Get the rope Macaulay! I was wondering if you could talk about the Facebook group and its evolution. I was never a member of the BBG (wasn't on facebook way back then and ever since 2015 it's seemed like a complete circle jerk.) Has it always been that way or has it evolved over the years? Is it the same group of cliques or do new people turn up and displace the old ones every few years?

Internet radio was genuinely smaller in those days. reckless media radio within 20 episodes was already in the top 10 of podcast alley back in 2006. redbar had fuck all for viewers and still managed to hit the top of podcast alley by the time that website was brought by itunes.

you got me on the one thing i can't talk about much. It was made by a user (Rob Mccarthy) during the takeover when Mike straight up vanished from the internet, i have a theory he did go to rehab during that era and moved back in with his parents. But overall Mike didn't have any real control over it, the facebook group was privated before he even came back and thats why its something you need to get approved for today. Othy was the first person to use the initalism BBG on air. The weird part about the group is that it was almost separate from the show. While it was started by fans of redbar and supposedly for people fans of the show, they very rarely watched the show and it was more of a circlejerk of people.

it had just over 1700 members by the end of 2012. Sven was already posting pol memes by the summer of 2013. I can't really remember more than that but its like any other group, tons of people and then you have regulars and mods and it self governs itself into becoming faggy/the way Mike wants it.

I've come across enough comments like this to warrant a deep dive. First off, Michael never set foot in Elan. His “boarding school" story was basically a mashup of what he read online about the school and his own experiences at a similar place. If you listen to the entire podcast, it's pretty obvious this midget was just pulling shit out of his ass as he went, especially when his friends questioned him about parts of the story that didn't add up. Someone else mentioned it, but there was a caller near the end of the podcast who was bringing up stuff related to the school that Michael seemed clueless about. You could tell the midge was flustered, which doesn’t make sense considering the caller went to Elan several years before Michael did. And let's not forget the part where Michael was supposedly “homeless” for months after “escaping Elan”, and when his friends asked how he managed to eat or find a place to sleep with no money, the midge couldn’t recall. How convenient.

A big tell the Elan story was bullshit was an interview Michael did with a local journalist back in 2008, which mentions he was expelled from Stevenson High School after 9th grade and then went to Lincolnshire's Ombudsman for the rest of his High School years:

Can any Red Bar fan explain the discrepancy? Why would someone like Michael, a midge that was saying/doing deplorable things during those years, not want to admit he went to Elan during the interview (if he did), but then have no problem talking about it for money years later? To me, it only makes sense that either he fabricated the entire story after reading a forum post about someone's experience at Elan, or he spliced together parts of those stories with his own personal experience at another institution because the truth would’ve exposed him majorly.

I happen to think it’s the latter. I don’t believe for a second that Michael went to Elan. I think he attended some sort of conversion camp after his parents realized his homosexual escapades were causing serious issues in his life. Most of the mask slipping goes down in Part 3, so I'll link the entire story below and highlight some notable time codes on that particular part after.

30 minutes into Part 3, Michael talks about going on a drive with a teacher he had feelings for, and how he confessed his love for “her”. After that day, he supposedly “broke the system” and was able to do whatever he wanted and get away with anything. And if that’s true, it seems reasonable for it to be a conversion camp since they obviously wouldn’t want the parents finding out the instructors there were also gay. But at 42:25, he nearly slips out the teachers name and then quickly catches himself by saying, “There was something going on with, like, Christ- uggghhhhh, I mean the woman ……. uggghhhh, it’s okay. The woman, who, uggghhhh, the thing happened with .... the woman that I loved”. I've listened to this midget long enough to recognize when he accidentally reveals something and then frantically tries to backtrack, and it’s painfully obvious to me that he meant to say “Christopher”.

I’ve seen the name “Kristen” pop-up in this thread, but that was just a name Michael came up with to cover up the embarrassing slip-up from earlier. Notice how at 48:15, he effortlessly says the name "Kristen" with zero hesitation, even though he was flustered and panicked less than 5 minutes earlier from almost saying it. He says "So that Kristen woman knew," laughs and then goes, "I just said her name, the woman." That was obviously the midge’s attempt at deflecting from his earlier gaffe because realistically, who would ever refer to someone named Kristen as “that Kristen woman” unless A they already brought up the name (which he hadn't fully), or B they were trying to cover up their tracks (which he clearly was)?

Still not convinced? Less than 10 minutes later (55:30), his friends tried finding the “woman’s" identity online, and Michael accidentally slips out, "Oh, they're asking me if they found him." And once again, he immediately catches himself and tries to straighten the record by saying "they'll never find her." It’s a textbook Michael move to let reality slip out and then scramble to cover it back up.

And finally at about 1:12.10, Michael talks about how he tried speaking with a close friend when he went back to his old school, but the guy responded with “fuck you faggot” and “you’re a faggot”. I wonder why his close friends started calling him that if he went to Elan? Really weird. But for Julienne’s sake, I really hope I’m wrong and this is all just a product of my “schizo” brain, but I somehow doubt it.

I've spent literally the last 90 minutes going over this last post and this is what i've come up with.

Another thing that helps disprove Elan to me is Mike's talking about getting a visit from his parents or that the camp wouldn't let him listen to eminem. But Mike's work ethic in the rest of his life makes it sound odd that he, for one brief period, could keep his shit together and that was when he was a teenager. So Mike suddenly being able to finish a year of intensive schooling sounds like bullshit to me. Another thing that makes me call bullshit on Elan is that Mike constantly refers to the place he went as a young man as a "boarding school" which not a single other person that has attended or learned about Elan refers to it as such. And from the photos' i've seen it doesn't seem like a boarding school in the way most people would imagine.
