Considering there are people with severe mental impairments who have still managed to finish college, I don't doubt he actually has the degree. Far more telling is the fact that he's done nothing with said degree, and that comic book artists give him an inferiority complex. Mike is clearly just barely bright enough to understand the merit of having an accomplishment, and bothered by the fact that he has none. This is why being a high-ranking member of a web forum is such a big deal to him... it's all he has.

It's a degree in AI from around 2000 or so, so I suspect it may have been something of a Mickey Mouse.
