If accurate, this does reinforce the idea we've had about Mike's home life-- that he's pretty much the lone asshole in a family full of good people. His family seems to tolerate his behavior solely out of a sense of familial duty (and even that seems to have hit its breaking point). And yes, his family is ashamed of him, or at least, of his activities online.

Most interesting to me is that Mike himself corroborates a lot of this. He's been openly hostile to his parents, especially his mother, for reasons unspecified. That matches well with the behavior of someone who wasn't reciprocating genuine parental care (callback to my referencing Mike as a moody adolescent). It also explains many of Mike's absences from the internet-- likely Mike has had his computer time restricted or outright revoked when his parents are fed up with him.

I feel it would be remiss of me not to point out that the author of that post is @Oliver D Smith, and that it should therefore be treated with some healthy skepticism.

With that said, there is plenty of evidence that Mike's family are indeed good people and that he is the black sheep that they all distance themselves from.
