🐱 Millennials 'set to be fattest generation'

Based on population trends, more than seven in every 10 people born between the early 1980s and mid-90s will be too fat by the time they reach middle age.

In comparison, about half of the "baby boomer" generation, born just after World War Two, were fat at that age.

Being fat as an adult is linked to 13 different types of cancer, says Cancer Research UK, who did the analysis.

The list includes breast, bowel and kidney cancer, but only 15% of people in the UK are aware of the link, according to the charity.

'Generation fat?'
Britain is the most obese nation in Western Europe, with rates rising faster than in any other developed nation.

Obesity prevalence has been increasing in the UK, from 15% in 1993 to 27% in 2015.

In 2015, the highest obesity levels were seen in people aged 55 to 64, but experts are concerned that younger generations are on track to become fatter still.

Cancer Research UK wants to make the associated health risks clear to the wider public.

Spokeswoman Prof Linda Bauld said: "Extra body fat doesn't just sit there; it sends messages around the body that can cause damage to cells.

"This damage can build up over time and increase the risk of cancer in the same way that damage from smoking causes cancer.

"While these estimates sound bleak, we can stop them becoming a reality.

"Millennials are known for following seemingly healthy food trends, but nothing beats a balanced diet.

"Eating plenty of fruit, vegetables and other fibre filled foods like whole grains, and cutting down on junk food is the best way to keep a healthy weight."

Prof Russell Viner, from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, said: "There is a danger that being overweight is becoming normalised, as we know that many people struggle to recognise obesity in themselves, and often are unable to see when their child is overweight.

"Knowledge of the links between cancer and smoking have driven smoking rates down dramatically amongst our young people.

"We need the same recognition of the dangers of obesity."

When I was at my highest weight of 210 pounds a year ago, no one said anything about my size. I lost a fuck ton of weight because I was sick of being a fat ass and now I am at a healthy weight of 145 pounds and these days I have others who have to tell me "I lost too much and look sickly looking". No, it's not because I am sick. It's because the rest of the world are a bunch of obese gluttons and everyone is so used to it now. It's fucking pathetic.

i legitimately fail to comprehend how so many people can be fat

how can you just be okay with being fat and possibly even gay
I really wonder how some people get so fucking massive so quickly. I sat on my ass all day and ate garbage all day as a kid and was only ever slightly chubby and it eventually went away the more active I got, I guess better metabolism but still wtf are these people doing that makes them so massive at such a young age? I just don't get it.

Hell, you can't even sit down at a restaurant and eat a meal without it having 1000+ calories in the damn thing. Portion sizes at restaurants are so large these days that you'd be hard pressed to find a meal under 1000 calories. I often decide to skip a meal when I know I'll be going out to dinner so that I don't get stuck eating just a salad and a piece of chicken.

I find it best to share the meal or take the rest of it home later so you aren't eating all 1000cal in one sitting.

drinks on the other hand are a lot harder to not down all at once. :(

What has Tumblr done to us?
this isn't tumblr's fault. most tumblrites are pretty skinny--because they're upper middle class white kids from liberal, urban parts of the country. the fattest parts of the us are all very conservative states. the skinniest cities are the ones people think of as 'sjw-y' like portland and san francisco. the FAs with the cushy non-profit job and the dangerhair are a small minority of young fat people.

I guarantee if you play this everywhere, everyone will lose weight.

Also is this really a surprise? At one of my last jobs one of my coworkers drank a 2 liter of Mountain Dew every day. They'd bring in a bottle to drink, and everyone else was joking how he'd get fat or die of a heart attack.

I've always been a lean guy with a BMI on the lower end of the healthy weight range (I have never found this hard at all; my dietary habits are actually shit but being reasonably active seems to more than compensate for that), and yeah, that's enough to draw comments about being "skinny" even if it's how you've always looked. What I find funny is that if you watch films or look at photographs from the first half of the 20th century, pretty much everyone had a slim body type. But now it's unusual enough to warrant comment. I think part of it is just envy as well, and other people wanting to rationalize their own obesity by convincing themselves that it's somehow unhealthy to be lean.

A lot of parents are ridiculously lazy or too overworked to actually pay attention to what their kid eats.

If only there was a way to ensure one parent was around to take care of the kids while the other worked a job to earn money for the house!

I like my girls chubby anyway like 70% of other niggas into white girls.

Oh, you're black.

So we're also including people in their mid thirties in this cohort now ?

Millennials is easily the most overused and lazy term to enter our political lexicon in the last couple decades, Gen Y lost all meaning at some point and became a catch all phrase for anybody who's supposed to reshape the political landscape even if some these people have been able to vote since before Bush Jr was in office.
