They also use it to communicate apparently, but that could be a part of the defense mechanism. They do fling it when stressed, so it wouldn't be a big leap of logic that to a monkey, 'stay off my lawn' comes in brown.

Also, many animals shit themselves when scared to gross out predators. The seed dispersal is just a bonus for the plants.

I've been doing some research to test a theory expressed in this thread: monkey torture, for women, is likely a stand-in for child torture and abuse, but not necessarily abuse of a sexual nature. I've seen some speculation on this, but here is some statistical evidence to back that up.

Yes, male offenders are overwhelmingly the majority in cases of child sex abuse. This study of child sex abuse cases had a ratio of 95% male offenders vs. 5% female.

If we look at studies of child torture, however, the ratio flips. The ratio of female offenders in this study is 60%--31 out of the 51 total: "Twenty of 51 perpetrators were either biologic mother or father (39.2 %). Females (31 total) were among the perpetrators in every case." The authors note this anomaly, stating, "Women figure much more prominently as perpetrators of torture than in other forms of physical abuse."
