Can we please for the love of God stop advertising for PrismPozz forks like this one?
Oh I'm stupid, I forgot what Polly was actually a fork of.
Hytale has been canceled.
My surprise is nonexistent. Did anyone here really think this would come out after so long in development hell? At most it would've been nowhere near feature complete. There was an animator that really wanted Hytale to come out, even made a bunch of fan stuff over the years, and uh...yeah I can imagine his disappointment. But I think even he saw the writing on the wall so he's taking the news not as poorly as I thought. Also, rip this guy for making a channel dedicated to Hytale before it even came out.
Also also, this guy is probably going to have his video blown up. He also mentioned a game like Everwind which might just absorb Hytale's audience if it releases within a timely fashion.
Did multimc ever add large importing of modpacks from curseforge? I know poly can do that.
Large importing? You mean importing multiple modpacks at once?
It really is a mystery how nobody has managed to make a decent, (semi-)generalized Minecraft clone game that wasn't somehow worse than Minecraft itself.
You'd think a voxel sandbox game like MC would be easy to make, so far the only good one off the top of my head is Vintage Story. Lay of the Land looks promising and actually is showing solid progress. Otherwise, holy shit there really is nothing. I guess when people can just make mod(pack)s that can change MC in all sorts of ways no one feels the need to learn to code a game from scratch...
It's sad how much MC is pretty much a solved formula to replicate but almost no one can do it.

They could've at least released all the game assets as-is and open source the code but fuck the backers lmao.
It was basically done as soon as Riot got involved. If it survived, it would've been made lame and gay, gutted of its features, and turned into a shitty live-service game.

But it'll live on like all the other stuff Riot buys out and kills: Riot will steal all the current work done, slap a half-assed League of Legends paint job on it, add a ton of LGBTBBQ shit to it, and release it in a half-baked state as their own "Unique creation".

No, not directly from Curseforge, because it doesn't support manual download flagging or a Curse API key. Technically you can still import packs from Curse's new format to it, but i just advise using Poly if that's what you want.

I don't totally blame you since until the Prism Debacle it was a Poly fork, but it was one of the 1323.5 forks that instantly started filing off branding in real-time to avoid association with the slandered party.
Though i guess we can attribute xheir actions as to why Poly itself now does it without needing a fork.

Imagine my fucking shock.

It really is a mystery how nobody has managed to make a decent, (semi-)generalized Minecraft clone game that wasn't somehow worse than Minecraft itself. It's like the prerequisite to having the specific kind of autism required necessarily makes you lazy, robs you of the ability to understand fun, or makes you hyperspecialize your game until it's basically just a copy of your favorite modpack. Every fucking attempt to replicate base Minecraft ends up incomplete, boring, or hyperspecialized, it's basically a law.

Maybe Notch really was built different somehow.
EDIT: Then again, Minecraft was never completed either...
Vintage Story is the strongest contender but it isn't exactly what I'd call generalized. It's more specialized toward the project zomboid type of gameplay where you autistically micromanage 50 things, but it's still a very good game.

What Notch did is exactly what the Vintage Story devs did - just make something and release updates. He stopped making updates and started taking vacations when it got popular and it was possible for him to rest on his laurels. He had a vision but lacked dedication and discipline. Or maybe he unironically believed he did the best he could (laughable) before selling it.

Hytale devs seemed to be focused on perfection, such that they let "good enough" pass them by. There has never been a block game like this which released in a perfect feature complete state. They're all a constant work in progress. I have no idea why the Hytale devs tried to buck this trend. Sure, they wasted a lot of time by using java and later being forced by technical debt to rewrite the whole project, but they still could have realeased something.

There are probably a lot of stories behind the scenes that explain it better. Some disillusioned devs might post them eventually.

:cryblood: Thank fuck I avoided Prism, zero respect for these schmucks. #LennyWasRight
It still boggles my mind how there can be drama about something as simple as a Minecraft launcher. I guess that's just the standard for any open source project these days, but it was genuinely hard for me to choose a launcher because people from each side kept baselessly calling the other ones malware.

It all started when the polymc guy told the pronoun trannies to fuck off from his project

What ultimately convinced me to side with Lenny after the dust fell was the shit that Scrumplex & Co were pulling to take PolyMC down. Remember, all that Lenny did was kick out all the active developers and remove the CoC, and he had the right to do so as it was his project, his repo. He could've deleted it if he wanted to. Meanwhile Scrumplex & Co were openly bragging on Discord about acting maliciously against Lenny and PolyMC, figuring out every single way they could fuck the project over out of spite, including trying to take down the AUR repo as it was one of the few spots where Lenny didn't have control over. That, and the attempts to take it down from Flatpak and the list goes on, I already talked about it here.

Today, PolyMC is simply great. All the mod management and installing tools just work, it's still a MMC derivative so it's light and fast, and also it has both offline mode and authlib-inject, so it is a cracked launcher by default. Funnily enough, initially Lenny said that he wouldn't make it cracked, but I guess that after all the shit that Scrumplex & Co did he rejected the premise of assholes and just did it anyways. They wanted him raped and dead anyways, so who cares?

Even just checking out the gameplay trailer (something Hytale did not have) it seems like this will be the case. It has everything that Hytale offered.
>RPG-elements
>Open-world
>Better looking trees than Minecraft
>Not overly-specialized like Vintage Story

The only issue I see with it is that the swimming animation with the arms jutting out is janky.

doesn't look particularly inspired but we'll see

Lonely players who don't like multiplayer use Custom NPCs.

All Java skins work, and you can use any mob model from vanilla or any mod. If you added a big titty george floyd mob his model will probably appear in the menu. You can make them move in any direction, give custom dialogue & use them as traders/item storage/companions/guards/etc. with any custom sfx dialog. There's also a copy/paste and spawner tool for when you can't be assed to edit every single one.

If you have a good PC you could potentially have a few hundred of these marching in formation.

You can make nigger NPCs pick cotton if you have a mod that adds cotton. Set them as farmers near the cotton, if they recognize it as a plant like wheat they will pick it and store it. This was made for RPG-style worlds and servers but there is absolutely nothing stopping you from having the Leibstandarte SS follow you around as private security, or have a gaggle of niggers hold your shit for you while you go spelunking.

If you're using them as security for bases, turn off mob griefing. They'll attack creepers and you'll have potholes everywhere within minutes.

There's also a setting to give them tits if you're into minecraft titties.

Anyone who has vision to make something better than Minecraft just mods Minecraft. Vintage Story is awesome, but some hugely significant portion of it could have been a Minecraft modpack.

And if you start with a modpack and modify it more and more (gregtech new horizons-style) you end up with a game that's technically Minecraft but more divergent than a clone would be, perhaps.

The modability of java minecraft is a huge moat for its survival, the only real way to compete with minecraft would be to compete with bedrock on the platforms that only have that, and good fucking luck.

I'd never heard of Hytale but looking at the website I dunno who this aesthetic would appeal to.

It looks like someone applied a "realism" mod to Minecraft; not the worst thing I've ever seen but there's definitely something uncanny about the faces that would put me off playing for any amount of time.
