PVCC as the last baby sitter is interesting, While I don't condone it in anyway shape or form there is some interesting implications of this my guess is Bob wasn't happy with how his life was ending an just wanted Chris out of the way, Barb just wanted him out the way until she needed him to do something. Education wasn't the goal of sending Chris there it was a way for them to get some peace an quite away from him.

So yeah, it's fair to say that it wasn't just mainstreaming that failed, it was a the perfect storm of shitty parenting and lack of specialized educational support that contributed to Chris being such an abject failure.

I think the whole mainstreaming thing was a mistake, but I also don't think Chris wouldn't have been much different if he had special education. Chris strikes me as some one who would struggle in any form of education, I am shocked he is as functional as he is academically at least he can read an write, perform basic maths etc.

Chris originally studied marketing and Bob vetoed it, enrolling him in CADD. I've always assumed that Bob still had a bit of hope for him back then, and only gave up on him after PVCC. (Or maybe even during, given all the weird trouble he got in.)

I'm mixed on this. On one hand special ed can't cancel out bad parenting. On the other hand special ed offers things like speech therapy, life skills training, and counseling which I feel would have benefited Chris a lot. Especially if he'd been entered into special ed all the way back in elementary.

The thing is though those things are hard an require some modicum of effort, they would not have worked as he would have just shutdown or ignored the lessons he was being taught mostly because of his parents being shitty.

Mainstreaming Chris into normal classes also meant that the other kids in his classes probably didn't get much direct instruction, since Chris seems to need a fuckton of handholding to do anything. He probably monopolized many a teacher's time.

perform basic maths etc.
Chris caused an accident by following another car to closely due to having a "math problem" stuck in his head 10 years ago. Chris got fined $30 for it and had to pay $56 in court costs, according to the CWCki.

Also, how often is Chris harassed by ween calls nowadays? I'm guessing it's a daily occurrence.

Before he was quick on the pepper spray or after? My understanding was he was fading into if not obscurity but of being less relevance.

I think one of the most remarkable Barb stories is the whole Toys R Us incident. I think it's amazing that she'd drop Chris off at the age of 18 with small children to play with legos at a toy store and think nothing of it. They'd doubtlessly have kept doing it if Charb hadn't done the staff a favor and given them a solid reason to boot Chris by letting it slip that he was 18.

These failed troll attempts are pretty interesting, it's kind of amazing the lengths people will go to to get a foot in the door of Christory. It seemed like the Megan troll had the goal of getting Chris to understand Megan was not a troll and that Chris is 100% to blame for the end of their friendship, but it's still pretty fucked up to get involved when Megan so clearly wants absolutely nothing to do with Chris and more than anyone has been a victim of his bullshit.

well that maybe he problem most teacher (atlest in my experiences) dont usually one on one a student unless its a small class

I don't know if a well-meaning and well-informed person could have met a pre-teen Chris and concluded he might do as well or better in mainstreaming. But I do think that is a possibility.
Well, Chris isn't retarded. As in, having a physiological or psychological problem with learning. Before he became an adult, Chris probably just came across as a withdrawn, geeky kid who inexplicably served as an easy target for bullying. We all had a good long laugh at Chris's schoolwork but honestly it's not really that much worse than you'd get out of some lazy high-school kid of slightly-below average intelligence who just wanted to ditch the place Fast Times At Ridgemont High style. Imagine if all that you knew about Chris was stuff that happened to him before graduation and then, seven years later, looked him up on Facebook. Would you be particularly surprised if someone told you that at age 25 Chris became a successful HVAC mechanic or an enlisted Army guy or IT worker?

Unless you were watching him like a hawk (like, say, a psychiatrist who met Chris once a month) Chris's problems didn't and wouldn't really start to make him stand out until the PVCC years.

Really makes you wonder how many people have tried trolling Chris over the years with only a few guys actually being successful. These guys usually just fail and we don't even hear of them at all.

Even Liquid, one of the funnier trolls only got started out of sheer luck.

Kind of weird, but it kinda feels like reading up on planned plotlines for a show that didn't get realized.

The bad parenting and the mainstreaming basically boil down to one simple problem: Chris was always allowed to half-ass his shit and still be able to coast through everything.

But we are wandering off-topic here... so we should take this to the random thoughts thread, I guess... :heart-empty:

the structured environment at MHS probably masked the problems, MHS would have had trouble suspending him if he began the love quest there due to the fears of another Borb lawsuit

I wish I'd been there to see the look of surprise on the Chandlers' faces when they realized lawsuits wouldn't work on a school that had no obligation to please a voluntary student.

Do you think that it ever dawned on Bob or Barb that their various acts of mainstreaming and coddling Chris is what led to him being a dysfunctional, manchildish leech on society? Like, after wasting Bob's GI bill on his CADD degree or having a warped view of the opposite sex do you think Bob ever sat down and thought 'my neglectful parenting did that'? Or do you think that Borb more-or-less thought that Chris's autism was so fucking crippling that having to shepherd Chris with tugboats and lawsuits was the best they could have hoped for?

I don't think Bob nor Barb even understood the values of family nevertheless parenting, even before settling down and having kids. So at youth, they were doomed to be toxic to their own offspring.

It's giving them too much credit to think otherwise.

I believe both of them had some good values, albeit poor ones, raising a autistic child is tough business even for good parents.

Considering the strong genetic factors in autism, it is probably often the fact that those parents are either on the spectrum themselves, or have other mental issues. Barb certainly does, as shown by the hoarding behavior.

The hoarding didn't start until around her retirement (if i'm not mistaken) and this is something i've seen with my own eyes, that often it isn't weird autistic people who starts hoarding, but people who suffer from losing their social life and having something to do.

Oh, and i meant more that Bob & Barf might've had the best intentions from beginning, but as time goes and Chris's failtastic run was continuing, they more or less gave up.

She wasn't normal before then, either, from all accounts. The hoarding is just a more dramatic case of her otherwise weird and antisocial behavior. (For instance the "q-sands" incident where she got thrown out of a local restaurant for acting much like Chris himself.)

She seems to have been a decently unpleasant and eccentric individual. Mix in a little bit of senility and "I don't give a fuck, I am old and retired", and you have a full on lunatic.

Good luck to the world when Chris acquires these extra traits.
