Bloody Marys (or Marias if you're a freak who prefers tequila) are tasty as fuck but they're practically a meal by themselves, especially if you get silly with the garnishes.

Regarding ice: don't use a fridge's icemaker for this shit. Use an icetray, with a sealing lid. Heat the water to a soft boil once, then turn it down and do it again after a couple minutes. Let cool just a bit, pour into the tray, seal and throw it in. Works reasonably well, usually gets you reasonably clear ice that doesn't taste like ass.
Savory Tomato Soup But It's Booze

I've been lucky with my fridge as long as I get it right out of the bin, before it goes through the defrost cycle.

I invented my own cocktail, you're welcome to try it out:

1 shot Bacardi
1 shot Cointreau
1 shot Malibu
1 shot Southern Comfort
1 shot vodka
pour in to a pint glass with ice top up with half orange juice, half pineapple juice and stir.
drink through a straw

A few of those will fuck you up, but it's refreshingly fruity.

Ah, now this thread is the shit. I'm rather boring, usually going with a glass of fireball (Yes, a glass, fuck you I don't have a problem.) after work, but it'll be nice to experiment with the things being tossed around.

Not the Vice article drink though. Fuck that's nasty.

Here's a simple Fireball cocktail for Fall or Winter:

1-2 shots Fireball
1 mug of hot apple cider
Completely optional: add a shot of hard apple cider

Drink, and reflect on happier times.

Malibu (esp. with pineapple juice) - the absolute king (queen?) of bitch-drinks but it tastes so fucking good.
The pineapple Malibu isn't bad, and if you can get past how sugary they are, the pre-mixed Malibu box-wine-type-things aren't terrible either. Also, while we're all talking about Fireball, it mixes really well with Pepsi or Coke.

That said, my-go to mixed drinks are and Old Fashioned, Moscow Mule, or a Cuba Libre.

An excellent summer drink for those hot days:

Southside Fizz

2 oz. dry gin
¾ oz. fresh lemon juice
1 tsp. superfine sugar (or use simple syrup)
8–10 mint leaves
Chilled club soda
Glass: highball
Tools: muddler, barspoon, shaker, strainer, tea strainer
Garnish: mint sprig

Place mint leaves in shaker and gently muddle. Add the gin, lemon juice and sugar, and stir to dissolve. Fill the shaker with large pieces of ice and shake gently—to keep from pulverizing the mint—for about 10 seconds. Double-strain into a highball glass filled with large cubes or an ice spear. Top with chilled club soda. Garnish.

Also, please love yourselves. Fireball is for college parties and Florida people. Drink actual whiskey.

I'd just like to add that my opinion of gin has changed a fair degree since becoming acquainted with American dry gin. Tones down the juniper a bit and lets other stuff come out to play a bit more. London gin just punches me in the fucking mouth. American dry is superior for mixing, I think.

EDIT: So I'm kind of tooling around with possible twists on my initial idea and something I came up with was possibly switching out the limeade for lemon juice, swapping the agave for a bit of wildflower honey or maybe a sugar cube or two, and somehow muddling fresh rosemary in the shaker then kind of adding a couple ounces of club soda for the fizz after it's out of the shaker. The problem I'm seeing right away is that rosemary leaves will come right out of the shaker given a chance, and I don't want them floating around in the lowball. Might have to go get a tea strainer.

I wonder if there's a way to be lazy about bloody marys that includes salsa

Here’s my concoction.
The Orange Man Bad
1 oz Amaretto
1 oz Rum cream (I like the Blue Chair Bay key lime, but Runchata works just as well)
1 oz Tequila.
Layer the shot with Rum cream on the bottom, Amaretto in the middle (building a wall), and tequila on the top. Take the shot. For a meme drink, it’s pretty good.

Amaretto and rum cream together sound delicious, but the tequila makes me hesitant.

Ragu? Really? Shit taste.

Always funny when someone says "I want to make a niche cocktail spinoff that is designed to gross people out". Alien Brain Hemorrhages do it better.
That one is actually designed to give people boners. The author is a menstruation fetishist.

I need to make a pitcher of mojitos. How much rum should I use for 1L of club soda? The recipes I see online are all over the place.

Edit:
The correct ratio was 2 cups rum, 1L club soda, 1/2 cup sugar.

It's a personal taste thing, I'm guessing. 4 parts soda to 1 part rum honestly sounds a bit anemic to me but I would try that in small scale with a highball to see if it feels right. Most of the fun of mixology is experimenting I think.
