Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
It looks like uBlock is writing to the drive whenever it's in use, and it writes a lot more when there's a lot of ads to block. Is there any way to disable all that writing?

edit: There's an option under the uBlock preferences to reduce logged entries to 0 but dunno if that really makes a difference though.

Is there a way to disable FF storing sessions entirely, but still have cookies?

Yes that means a browser crash ends a session entirely but cookies still there.

🍪

This is a trend that started in the US but is now slowly spreading to other countries as well

Most of the time when they start blaring you can press the second button on the right to mute them.

Oh god, it's like those shitty ads in New York cabs. Like its bad enough I'm paying you $20 to get from midtown to hells kitchen, but I am stuck in the back of a car driven by a retard and I have to endure shitty ads as well. Its like they want uber to win.

Set exceptions for the pages you want to save cookies. Cookies and site data > Manage exceptions. If all you want is simply removing previous history, you can just set it to never remember history instead.

So far, in my quest to stop the mystery excess writing of Firefox, I turned that "telemetry" BS off, I've stopped uBlock from logging ads blocked, I stopped leaving tab with GMail open, and I increased session store interval to max value (whatever 2147483647 is). Still, Firefox writes ~20 MB every 30m for some reason (is it what 2147483647 is?).

Oh yeah, and also any videos played in private browsing windows can be disabled from being stored on drive by setting browser.privatebrowsing.forceMediaMemoryCache to true.

But is it possible to disable the storing of sessions entirely using some obscure about:config preference hidden in there?

Question: why don't you simply use LibreWolf?

You want to look into the stuff under browser.sessionstore.*. There's way too many and who knows which ones still work and which ones don't, but look here for a starting point. It's probable disabling some of those will also turn off the "reopen last closed tabs" feature, best bet may be "browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo" and "browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo". You could also completely forbid firefox from accessing the files and directories it stores that stuff into when it's running. As for uBlock, you can profile extensions, and if you can't find anything, the browser itself too, that's the best way to figure out what's happening and necessary to report it to them too. If you're really annoyed by disk usage you could run it in a ramdisk, there's some tricks to preserve cookies and all that, it's going to be just as miserable to run and setup.

How do that? As for uBlock, like I said I think I already fixed it by turning off logging.

(To do that click on the uB icon, click "Open the logger", click gear icon, and there's options to set to 0. Otherwise uB keeps a log of everything blocked: bad with GMail.)

A lot of car chargers have screens, though ads are probably less effective there because nobody is going to stand around for the half hour it takes to charge. They're also already putting ads on the giant control screens in newer electrics (well, a lot of new cars, but electrics are the biggest offenders for those things).
The charging stations since corona time that have cropped up everywhere by me have ads on them, but they're like mall kiosk style ads on a tv screen instead of the loud video ads. When the ukraine shit happened literally all of them just had "DONATE/STAND UP FOR UKRAINE" ads playing constantly.

I think it says something when despite how prevalent the shitty Internet ads are now even offline somehow, the people cramming the ads everywhere don't even think about aesthetics. I rambled about the aesthetics stuff in another thread at one point but there's SEVERAL famous locations in various cities around the world where a big focus is billboard ads and the placement of said ads. There's a clear art to this that's being lost the more ads get crammed down our throats outside of places that have that as their "thing".

I was thinking about some old flash game I used to play on kongregate when I was young and this is what the site looks like now.

Shitty designed pootjeet phone asset flip games.

This is what the site looked like before for comparison.
This is exactly why I downloaded Flashpoint Ultimate, so if I want to play a quick fun game, I don't have to look at slop like this.

update: seems setting browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo to 0 makes a huge difference in reducing the amount of mystery writing

update again: nope still writing ~20 MB at regular intervals (about every half hour) but only when online

Nigga what the fuck :cryblood: this is satanic levels of jeetism. I know kongeregate has been dead for basically the past decade but I didn't know they redesigned their shit to look like those websites that redirect you to fetish porn games, bleak.
At least armor games still looks mostly normal

I use a text file for bookmarks, instead of using the browser bookmarks thing. Easier to use between different browsers.
Seems some think that's dumb but I accidentally deleted my bookmarks file.

Yet that text file is still there, and I also have it backed up elsewhere.

I remember going on here all the time to play that crush the castle game. Does anyone remember a flash site called arcadeprehacks? It was basically just popular flash games with built in cheats. That one stickpage site also doesn't work anymore but still looked like the old site last I checked. I don't remember the sites anymore but I remember there being quite a few sites that let you just play NES and SNES games in your browser. I discovered a lot of games that way.
