Not really, you see, most of the time the real scientists are kind of busy researching and the really important ones are even more busy and really hard to reach (even by their own peers).
So when one of them actually address a nutcase it's just for fun and giggles and he just point out all the flaws in whatever crazyness he just read, so even if the nut case try to reply or anything, he'll got dogpiled once everyone knows he was bashed by the real scientist, rendering whatever he could come up as complete garbage.

Here's one tip on the magical world of science; the only thing more important than having references to back your work up, is your credibility. So even if you're a great researcher with great ideas, if you are caught cheating, spreading lies or whatever just once, your whole career goes to the drain and you'll never be able to come back because everyone "knows you", no second chances or anything.
