Morality of Piracy - Yet another quality FuckedUp thread

I'm an old fag of the old internet, specially when PirateBay started and just after Peer 2 Peer became known outside of certain niches.

In that time there was one morality: if it was digital then is free. The catch was how. That was basically how torrents started, how to make free digital content.

Then came the controversy only spurned by distributors and labels who realize that the platform could be more effective in distributing their media than themselves, so they saw they were fucked if they didn't controlled it somehow and that's how it started.

Then some faggots started to introduce the concept of morality to the question, and is totally bullshit because if it is in the internet and the CONTENT CREATOR don't worry about it enough as to protect it then it's free.

I haven payed for anything in more than 15 years. I played triple A games, watched movies, read books, learned photoshop, etc.

If you are a faggot who won't download anything cause "It'S ILlegAl!!!11!1" and "Muh morality" then you should grow up and stop being gay.

Piracy is the only way to watch most movies and shows. I'm not going to jump through multiple streaming services to watch that one show/movie I want to watch. That one show/movie I know that the original creators wont make a penny on anymore because they don't own the rights to it or they are dead and I'm not giving these streaming services a dime of my money. Including that one old movie/show that I would really want to watch that isn't on any of the streaming services. DVDs are becoming increasingly more unavailable and tracking down a used DVD set is just not worth it.

People get really moral faggy and act like they are such badass anarchist punks for downloading movies. I used to be the same way when I was a teen. I've committed piracy since I was a little kid and I doubt I'll ever stop. I think it's just a part of internet culture and you really can't stop it. You just have to provide a very good alternative to piracy or just suck it up.

It's absolutely absurd that we even call the act of unauthorized file sharing "piracy", by doing this we are giving too much credence to the MPAA/RIAA hollykike narratives that using your own property to redistribute ideas and information is akin to committing physical theft of someone else's property, or boarding a ship by force and violently kicking out all of it's crew, or that you can even have a property right in an idea or piece of information in the same way you can a physical good.

Idk about any of you but I'd rather not live in a world where "unauthorized consumption of information" and "unauthorized use of idea" are crimes.

Honestly, "morality of Piracy" discussions always feel to me like people have a guilty conscience and just want to justify it to themselves.

I've certainly been there. I eventually reached a point where I said "I no longer care if its moral or not. I just do it." I only buy official media if A) its literally the only way to get something I want (often the case when it comes to western animation) or B) the official release actually is worth getting for some reason.

I don't buy stuff because of morality reasons. I do so for convenience. I'm sure it's improved since I actually was pirating games but I hated downloading shit, extracting, mounting images, performing a séance by the light of a new moon, and tracking down whatever patches or keys you needed to run the goddamn thing. I have the expendable income to go 'Hey I want X. I'll buy X. Now I have it and I will enjoy it'.

I'm not shit talking anyone who decides piracy is right for them but $60 for a game which will keep me occupied all month or $2 for a rental, maybe $10 for a DVD isn't going to put me in the breadline.

I pirate just becuase I can, mainly if it's something I think would actually like to play with older games or watch if there's something that looks actually interesting and if it's something that would actually help my computer run better or would be the best program to use for something specific like Process Lasso or Sony Vegas. My computer isn't the best when it comes to modern games, but most games on PC that have been comming out arn't that great anyways.

Too bad a majority of Piracy discussion is about the morality or legality of doing it, becuase a png file of a cat or a handful of digital folders for a game are just that Illegal. it's just data made from several zeros and ones, just download it like everyone else does.

Piracy is moral and desirable.
If it's digital and can be replicated infinitely, it's OURS.
If content creators seethe and stop creating, nobody cares, happened hundreds of times, new ones will emerge, nobody needs you spergs.

I have no qualm about piracy since otherwise giving money to media producers will, on average, result in more kid diddling or (((subversion))).

I WILL reward products that break from the sea of focus group'ed derivative mediocrity with money if it's moving in a direction I find desirable. Vote with your wallet and pirate the rest.

I mostly pirate foreign stuff because Japs tend to hate US markets.
They half ass anything they release state side, and usually the fans do a better job translating than actual translators the distributors use.
With games, I pirate games I already have but cannot play (like my collection of NES games with my actual NES dead in the water) or games that are too damn expensive to buy (Neo Geo games, any of the SNES RPGs, the games retard game stores jack the price up way too much)
Honestly pirating for me is out of convenience because too many companies are lazy shits or are too greedy.

Personally, I like to buy physical media; but piracy is cool and 100% morally right.

There are three types of people to me:

People who pirate shit
People who pay for their shit
And the faggot that not only pirates shit but also has to announce to the world that he is doing it because it is morally justified to pirate because muh rotten industry

If i was a game developer and people were pirating my games, of course I wouldn't agree with it. I dunno, if you don't have the money for something then the idea is that you earn it and then when you go and buy it your brain will balance if the time spent to earn that money justifies what you are spending your money on.

Though if you are going to pirate, keep it to yourself and don't be a moral fucking faggot.

personally i usually pirate everything first unless i know there wont be a crack for a while, then i decide if there are any benefits from buying it (such as a multiplayer mode or constant updates making pirating annoying) unless its an indie dev and i like the game. the pirating is more of a precautionary measure since i always refund something when i dont like it anyways, just dont enjoy the stress of staying under this and that hour limit.

so, big company = pay if i gain a benefit that isnt just the game itself

small company = if i like it ill buy it, they usually dont have a huge budget to start with and if its a first game they mightve had to pay for it out of pocket too so if im able to afford it i dont see why i wouldnt.

no games have been released in the last decade that deserved my money.
paying thousands of dollars for shit software sucks mad dick and i'll never do it.
subscription services are literally cancer and i'd rather burn my money.

One of the most based things that any country has done in decades is Russia legalizing piracy to skirt international sanctions. Thanks to the shortsightedness of western pigdog governments, Russia now has a blooming software cracking industry that will allow us to get free software, movies, and games from any company we please for at least a decade.

Inshallah when the US balkanizes the red states legalize piracy as well and silicon valley turns into a fucking wasteland. Death to techtrannies and death to IP rent seekers, get a real job!
