War More than 1,000 people, including Hezbollah members, wounded in Lebanon when pagers explode - Israel blows the balls off Hezbollah members

BEIRUT, Sept 17 (Reuters) - More than 1,000 people, including Hezbollah fighters and medics, were wounded on Tuesday when the pagers they use to communicate exploded across Lebanon, security sources told Reuters.
A Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the "biggest security breach" the group had been subjected to in nearly a year of war with Israel.
Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the Gaza war erupted last October, the worst such escalation in years.

The Israeli military declined to comment on Reuters enquiries about the detonations.
Iran's Mehr news agency said the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was injured by one of the blasts. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.
A Reuters journalist saw ambulances rushing through the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, amid widespread panic. A security source said that devices were also exploding in the south of Lebanon.

At Mt. Lebanon hospital, a Reuters reporter saw motorcycles rushing to the emergency room, where people with their hands bloodied were screaming in pain.
The head of the Nabatieh public hospital in the south of the country, Hassan Wazni, told Reuters that around 40 wounded people were being treated at his facility. The wounds included injuries to the face, eyes and limbs.
The wave of explosions lasted around an hour after the initial detonations, which took place about 3:45 p.m. local time (1345 GMT). It was not immediately clear how the devices were detonated.

Lebanese internal security forces said a number of wireless communication devices were detonated across Lebanon, especially in Beirut's southern suburbs, leading to injuries.
Groups of people huddled at the entrance of buildings to check on people they knew who may have been wounded, the Reuters journalist said.
Regional broadcasters carrying CCTV footage which showed what appeared to be a small handheld device placed next to a grocery store cashier where an individual was paying spontaneously exploding. In other footage, an explosion appeared to knock out someone standing at a fruit stand at a market area.

Lebanon’s crisis operations center, which is run by the health ministry, asked all medical workers to head to their respective hospitals to help cope with the massive numbers of wounded coming into for urgent care. It said health care workers should not use pagers.
The Lebanese Red Cross said more than 50 ambulances and 300 emergency medical staff were dispatched to assist in the evacuation of victims.

Hezbollah fired missiles at Israel immediately after the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas gunmen on Israel. Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire constantly ever since, while avoiding a major escalation as war rages in Gaza to the south.
Tens of thousands of people have been displaced from towns and villages on both sides of the border by the hostilities.

From OSINT

What we know so far:
- Explosion happened simultanously
- Explosions didn't only happen in Lebanon, but in Syria too so it's a long range to be wireless detonation signal.
- The pager is 'Rugged Pager AR924' produced by a Taiwanese company
- Small Li-Ion battery, can't explode that big
- None of the pagers caught fire, which is common incase of a battery 'explosion' rather they just exploded.
- However the pagers did heat up before
- All exploded pagers were the same model of pager.
- The pagers came from one shipment

Also pretty shitty headline considering this was an attack that could only hit Hezbollah members

Video of the attacks

Could be true but it would mean Israel would have to do due diligence in making sure covi didn't eventually get their hands on the same equipment. I feel it's more likely they had a satellite/lte device planted within each page
Timer + explosive is cheaper than lte modem + explosive and you know they are the cheapest people in the world.

I, for one, am happy to see what the world famous Quasi payer and renown Conservative book author has to say on the issue. I sure am glad that Israel is on the right side of history, because oh boy would it be embarrassing if an actual lolcow that has an entire forum dedicated to mocking it would have a retarded opinion worthy of even more mockery!
"No, Hezbollah-child, it was YOU who bought the pagers, YOU who bought the radios, and YOU who joined a terrorist organization dedicated to killing the people who just blew your dick up. Enjoy castration!"

If there's anyone left in Hezbollah with any brains, they're ripping apart every bit of electronic gear they have right now to check for more of this type of thing. If the Israelis have done it elsewhere and installed any kind of anti-tampering mechanisms to their devices, that'll be an interesting exercise for Hezbollah as well.

Keep in mind that when hunting Black September after the Olympic massacre in 1972, Israeli operatives executed one terrorist with a bomb placed in the handset of a phone, so hardline phones are also potential booby traps. Hezbollah is looking at having to replace virtually every bit of communications gear they have. Which brings us to a second problem for them.

After the events of the past two days they cannot rely on their own supply chain until they've identified, isolated, and eliminated the source of the penetration that put all these weaponized devices in their inventory.

Significant casualties, command confusion, communications interdiction, and an internal mole hunt all at the same time. This was very well executed.

"Cosmo! Wanda! I wish all Lebanese's pagers would explode!"

I'm guessing something like this was added to the salted communication devices. They're ridiculously tiny chips developed by DARPA back in 2013 and must be even smaller by now.
TIMU_Michigan_Penny_April2013.jpg
"The resulting TIMU is small enough and should be robust enough for applications (when GPS is unavailable or limited for a short period of time) such as personnel tracking, handheld navigation, small diameter munitions and small airborne platforms," Darpa program manager Andrei Shkel said in the researchers' announcement. In other words, further development could not only help ground units find optimal battlefield routes in the absence of GPS, they could make ever smaller bombs and missiles smart enough to find accurate targets, and equip gliders like the ones the Naval Research Lab 3D-prints with miniature navigation.

This is exactly what Israel wants them to do

Paralyze Hezbollah communications, neutralize a large part of their officer corps, and distract them big-time

Tanks will be rolling over the Lebanese border very soon while Hezbollah is still in disarray

Why would you need to put a microcontroller in the pager?
It already has a microcontroller.

The only thing you need is to modify the existing firmware of the existing microcontroller, something like:
"If someone pages me the message 'Oilspill is a nigger', then detonate the device."
Plastic explosives require a detonation mechanism, they don't explode by heat. You would need a detonator anyway and as someone else said you also wouldn't want to leave it up to chance.

Due to the recent change in the security situation, the Lufthansa Group airlines have decided to suspend all connections to and from Tel Aviv (TLV) and Tehran (IKA) with immediate effect. This applies up to and including September 19. During this period, the Israeli and Iranian airspace will also be bypassed by all Lufthansa Group Airlines.

I find this whole thing unreal, seems like Israel did them a solid because sand niggers like blowing themselves up anyway, it's like they made it easier. They also did it for free, which is very un-jewlike.

Eeprom/flash is an upsell for devices that won't ever be reflashed

I’ve always found it weird how common circumcision is in modern times, even beyond the morality of it. Is it just something our ancestors did for hygiene reasons, so we do it now without thinking about it?
circumcision became a popular thing in the US because a bunch of doctors in the 1800s said it would prevent masturbation in boys. in the 1950s it saw a resurgence because it was thought to help with hygiene. jewish immigrants also just always did it, and that i guess spread into families as they intermarried. it's a bunch of horseshit of course, just male genital mutilation, which i imagine most of us are as against as we are female genital mutilation for islamic reasons.
