Mosh pits deemed problematic by Guardianista, should be replaced with safe spaces - Apparently they are toxic masculinity and exclude women, trans people, and people of colour.

I'll just leave this spergery here shall I.

A few observations:

1. Yes, I have seen women get groped in mosh pits. Usually other heshers in the vicinity punched them out or they were slung out by the bouncers afterwards. Besides, you're less likely to get groped in a mosh pit than you are at some indie show or meat markety nightclub. Most headbanger women can look after themselves anyhow.

2. The most destructive moshers are always the tiny stick-thin girls who just go windmilling in and never, ever, give up.

3. What's being a person of colour got to do with moshing?

4. The article's entire arguments seems to be that women are too fragile and precious to handle moshing. Aside from being factually wrong (women mosh all the time), it's also a bit, you know, sexist, this idea that women are too weak and need to be protected for their own good. Fuck that noise.

I can't but feel that what the writer of this lame and stupid article really wants to say is that mosh pits at metal/hardcore shows are bad because straight men like them.

Because while it is indeed not cool that there are shitheads who go around and grope women and teenage girls at music shows. Its stupid that both Metal and Hardcore are being singled out here, when the overwhelmingly vast majority of incidences of where women/teenage girls have been groped have been at hipster music festivals and indie rock shows.
I'm a chick and I like them. fuck the edm hipster indie dance soft scene, all that shit is, is people on research drugs groping each other

So this is interesting. One of the bands namedropped in the article as advocating safe moshing spaces, PWR BTTM, is now trying to slap down super problematic allegations of sexual harassment by their lead singer. Their openers dropped out.
Gets much worse as someone contacted Jezebell and claimed that said band member sexually assaulted her and that people have known about his predatory behavior for quite some time but have chosen to keep quit about it.

So much for them creating a safe space.

With Troons You Lose.

I did some research into the writer of this piece. She's deputy editor of Vice, is 25, and a huge fucking hipster. She wouldn't know decent punk or metal from a hole in the ground.

While a student she was, according to her Linkedin, music reviewer for the student union newspaper. She studied English Literature while there.

next 6music DJ when?

No idea, but she can't be any more annoying and stupid than that simpering fuckwit Nick Grimshaw.

Oh yeah, forgot you were a millenial.

I'm from the Zoe Ball Radio1 breakfast show generation.

I expect she could out drink, out fuck and out punch Nick Grimshaw anyday.

Rapists need safe spaces too!

Joking aside: I've just read a bit into this situation and I don't know what to make of it. On the one hand creeps and perverts are probably thriving in this community because everyone is terrified of calling out one of their own or making LGBT folk look bad (i.e. feeding into the stereotype of gays being pedos etc.) and it gives creepers easy access to vulnerable people by simply paying lip service to "safe spaces" and being "feminist and queer friendly" or whatever other buzzwords they might use. But on the other hand we're talking about people that like to reframe any regrettable decision on their part as an assault on them.

Like this in the Jezebel (archive because fuck Jezebel) article
Hopkins continued to send Jen nude photos after the assault. Jen said she didn’t initially process her experience with Hopkins as rape after being assaulted in high-school. “In high school I was blamed, told it was my fault, shouldn’t have gone to this place,” she told Jezebel. “I have a lot of that internalized, unfortunately.” A month later, she said, Hopkins assaulted her again. After talking about the experience with a few musicians and friends, Jen said she realized she was assaulted and, like Coredo-Kolin, gradually began to hear more stories about Hopkins’s predatory behavior.

I'm not trying to defend this dude...girl...xirthemselves...whatever the fuck this person in the shitty band is...they're probably an asshole. But come on, you need a bunch of people to realize you've been sexually assaulted? Really?
