I'm gonna make my mom a cake and do lots of housework so she can have a chill sewing day. We might also do some yardwork.

I am a sous chef at a local restaurant establishment. Mother's Day is the worse fucking day of the year for me. It's a living hell and I wish we never had this holiday. Why do we even need holidays like that? You should appreciate your mother every god damn day of the year.

The woman who campaigned for Mother's Day in the first place would agree with you. She grew to hate how commercialized the holiday became and spent the rest of her life fighting against it.

I'm going to TRY and quietly stand my mother's insinuations that I'm retarded, not going to look her funny when she screams at me or my kid for stupid stuff (like using the wrong chair or something), defend my dad whenever she "jokingly" attacks him (sorry dad) and pretend that she never emotionally abandoned me because I was "too difficult for her" only for her to pretend to be a hero with a "difficult child".

Then at night, I will reflect on my behavior, determining if I'm repeating patterns with my own daughter; along with repeating myself that the doctor said I'm not retarded... As I do every time I interact with my mother.

I told my husband I just want to go out for ramen and a martini, then a massage. He seemed receptive to that so I’m happy. I took my mother out for brunch the other day. As we all get older we just want quality time and a nice meal we don’t need to cook ourselves, maybe some flowers too. I bet the women in your life loved the ice cream, it’s the perfect time of year for that
