Mouse recommendations? - Gaming or regular? Wired or wireless?

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I just bought the Logitech MX Master 2S for the home because I have one at work and the mousewheel is silent. Great for shitposting late at night when others are asleep.

I've had the Logitech G502 SE Hero for maybe 18 months and it seems to be malfunctioning, like I could be dragging a window or something and it just "lets go" even if I'm still holding down the mouse. I know that Logitech has declined in recent years, but that's a major bummer, I like the mouse design, and I don't see an obvious way to fix the problem (yes, I have blown things out and around). Should I try to get a new mouse, new brand, complain about it?

I bought a mess of those tactical gaming mice on ebay
l/r, scroll wheel with click but not left and right, forward and back buttons around the thumb, and speed up/down
also a button to turn the disco lights on and off
most of them have lasted at least a year if not a few, and when one breaks at all I can just chuck it because who the fuck cares it was like three bucks

Wired has the advantage of not requiring a battery etc. in it, so it should be lower weight and less likely to give you RSI. You can also address this by putting extra slick material on the feet of your mice, I did so for a standard and pretty good Microsoft design one a long time ago.

It's now out of your price range, I suspect they stopped making this design, but the first generation Elecom Scope Node M-SN1UL(BK for black) is my favorite, its ergonomics are fantastic. There's one of those plus a second generation available on eBay right now for a bit over $100 including shipping in the US. From a search just now they also made a third generation wireless version over a decade ago.

I used an Intellimouse for the longest time but things about replacements got too fucking retarded and the plastic on those chinese knock-offs feels shitty and gets sticky and gross after a while, also I barely ever did anything with the side buttons. A lot of the mice in the ten bucks range are actually pretty good if you want something no frills.

After searching for a while and trying many different things I settled and I unironically like the Cherry M5400. It's a cheap mouse that somehow feels a lot more expensive, if that makes sense. It's also a good size and not impractically tiny or "creatively designed" like many of the cheap mice are. 7-8 Eurobucks in my corner of the world. It's also one of the few mice you can still optionally get in that "off-white" color if you have a theme going with your devices. (I have my screen/keyboard and now mouse in that color and love it)

Ah yes, the Logitech DoubleClick™, it appeared on my G502 Hero too, and I've suffered with it for a long time before I decided to send it on a warranty repair on the edge of the warranty wearing out. Got both switches changed out for free, but next time I'd consider doing it myself, learning some soldering and getting some quality switches.

And yeah, I'd recommend the G502 as a work mouse. It has pretty good ergonomics, and all the extra buttons allow for complex macro capabilities. Plus the scroll wheel is fantastic.

A buddy just switched right and left buttons on the mouse in the settings and somehow that fixed it. He can't use computers for regular people anymore so buyer beware.
In my case it was definitely the fault of the switches, and that is the most common cause of the double clicking. The little metal plate inside the switch gets bent out of shape, leading to patchy contact when fully depressing the switch stem, leading to weird flaky inputs. I attempted the plate bending twice on my old mouse and honestly the first time should've been enough to encourage me to learn soldering, because getting that little fucking plate back in place is a nightmare. But hey, that fixed the double click with no money spent, only a ton of nerves.

I've been using the Ducky Feather for about a year now and I'm pretty happy with it still. The mouse isn't perfect, but the big advantage is that it's super, ridiculously easy to take apart. That means if you develop any issues over time, you can trivially pop the bottom off and fix it yourself. I've had to do it twice over the past year. One for fixing a weird noise with one of the buttons and the other for fixing an issue with the scroll wheel.

I had these same problems with logitech mice as well, but the models where nigh impossible to open without destroying something, so I just gave up on trying to use them.

Avoid Razer products at all costs. I bought their Razer Mamba mouse and the piece of shit started having clicking issues where it would randomly double click. It made the mouse unusable because you couldn't even drag a window around because it would register a double click and release even though you were holding the button down. It lasted 6 months, thats it.

Avoid Razer products in general, they are garbage.

A4Tech OP-720. This is the AK of computer mice - it may not be anything flashy, but it gets the job done, is nigh-indestructible and also super cheap.

I have got an Logitech wireless mouse. It's works perfectly fine, but my goodness does it consume battery power like a mukbanger recording a video.

Don't really do much gaming now, so I can't tell you how it preforms on that front.

Need a wired mouse for gaming, would like something with lots of programmable buttons and a bit of a verticality to spare my wrists.

My Viper Mini is still working perfectly fine after 3 years of use. Just don't buy their overpriced gaymer shit. It has optical switches, good luck getting double click problems.

You should take the trackball pill. Not for gaming, but for doing literally anything else it's superior.
I disagree, I've used mine for gaming and I find it nicer to use than a regular mouse.
Recommend anything specific?
