Movies that you suddenly "get" after multiple viewings

You know when you have this moment:

You have this kind of reaction to something you maybe just were disinterested in, or you thought it was just "okay" at the time or it just suddenly clicked one day. I've had that with every David Lynch movie I've seen excluding the Elephant Man and the Straight Story. Even Dune I appreciated more upon a 2nd rewatch and it holds up even better when compared to the new one.

Had that moment where I really fucking connected to the movie when I re-watched Eyes Wide Shut... Keep in mind that the first time I saw it, I initially dismissed much of the billionaire pedo conspiracy theories but it wasn't until I did more research and with the Epstein revelations it all suddenly clicked.

Another one would be Jacob's Ladder. I never hated it but for years I wanted to see the infamous cut footage that was more disturbing and made the movie more into a pure horror film. But over the years and gaining life experience the film hits harder now and I can't imagine watching a different version because it achieves a very weird sort of balance that I can't think of any other film that pulled off as well where it's equally a drama and a horror film. Maybe Don't Look Now is another example of Drama/Horror?

I know its going to be a possibly silly choice but The Return of Godzilla. The entire point of the movie isn't that "OMG GODZILLA RUN!" its "Wow the US and Soviets don't give a shit about us (being Japan)"
Godzilla in the movie is a threat, yes, but the bigger, more immediate threat is the US or the Soviets nuking Japan to stop Godzilla. A giant radioactive fire breathing monster is the lesser of the two evils.
It's an allegory for the non US/Soviet countries being shit scared if nuclear war actually did pop off, and how ANYTHING could be the trigger for it.

Also none of them, because I don't believe in the notion of somehow enjoying something all of the sudden after multiple watches. I should be able to enjoy and understand the gist of a movie, show, etc. the first time around. If I can't, then what's the point?

I did a whole deep dive on wtf was going on in Mulholland Drive and I dunno, I guess I still don't like it that much after watching it a couple of times.

otoh Fire Walk with Me I liked much better the second time I watched it. Not much to do with "getting it" I think, but having different expectations.
