Reading the post by @Null at https://kiwifarms.net/threads/ethan...ic-violence-arrest.81547/page-73#post-7976442 has got me thinking about the forum, and how Josh has expressed his sadness and discontent with the state of the website and users.
Its clear there's a deep rooted problem present, and its highly resistant to being eradicated. The idea that mass banning users to clean up the website is really only treating the symptoms instead of the cause, and will only result in further infighting and drama, just like the past. Its a shame really because its as if the forum has lost the premise of being a place to laugh at eccentric people and more of a place to lurk habitually on and get angry at shit that doesn't matter like speds. The recent drama within A&N and the feds only proves this, and the fact it needs to be said that users have to shut their mouths and not use the site as a place for real life threats and attention-whoring with guidelines speaks volumes.
If change is going to happen, it needs to be within the staff team and users. Make it clear that the users need to adapt and put in effort to help the site grow, and boot staff that aren't doing enough of a job to keep the site clean and fun to read (Which at this point might as well be 80% of the moderators, who obviously were fucking around doing something else considering the site has been allowed to reach this state at all), instead opting to sit back in their chairs and stir shit. Don't let relationships cloud your judgement Josh, but instead ask yourself whether taking specific actions are beneficial to the site or not, as that is what ultimately matters in the end.
Sometimes change requires taking a "fresh start" approach. Press the reset button and bring some fresh meat into the picture, it would certainly make for some interesting developments, because the current group of users have proven already that being sustainable is difficult, and they aren't willing to appreciate the hell you've gone through to keep the site running with insane people on your ass constantly and idiots abusing it with threats and shitposting.
Made this thread because its something that needs to be brought up and discussed instead of just pushed around and never really contemplated. Avoiding the issue just lets it fester and grow to a point that you won't be able to ignore it any longer and the consequences grave.
Thoughts?
