i see this alot on youtube and used to on sites like limewire and napster so post some examples below

Members of the sadly departed Limewire master race will remember fondly when every reggae song was attributed to Bob Marley. Even "Red, Red Wine" by UB40, the whitest reggae song of all time.

One random one I remembered is "Died in Your Arms Tonight" by Cutting Crew being attributed to Journey despite sounding absolutely nothing like them. It makes me wonder if the people who uploaded those songs were just changing the artists for the sheer fuck of it. Surely that could not have been a legitimate mistake.

Not exactly the same thing, but I remember downloading "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park on Limewire and it ended up being a version with Homer Simpson quotes added in. I think the best real-life example I can think of is "All For You" by Sister Hazel being habitually mistaken for a Blues Traveller song.

That's nothing. I remember when someone tagged a rip of The Boys are Back in Town with Bachman-Turner Overdrive as the artist instead of Thin Lizzy.

I vaguely remember a lot of songs on limewire being attributed to MySpace bands. You'd search a song and see (song name) by (random MySpace band) or something and think "oh I guess they did a cover of it. Weird" but if you downloaded it and listened to it you'd find it was just the original song attributed to them for some reason even though it's a completely different style.

I remember seeing the immigrant song by led zeplin being attributed to Hollywood undead which is funny because Hollywood undead did end up doing a cover of it years later. I wonder if it was just a coincidence or if they were poking fun at it

Does anyone else remember that one Legend of Zelda song that everybody used to misattribute to System Of A Down? The real artist is a guy named "Joe Pleiman", but I remember it being attributed to System Of A Down on Limewire, and it stuck around with a lot of people for years, myself included.

The majority of the soundtrack for Into The Wild was composed and recorded by Michael Brook, but everyone thinks it was all Eddie Vedder.

Speaking of limewire, I still have no idea who actually performed that cover of Video Killed The Radio Star.

Hotel California would like a word with you.

Many musicians are famous for "their" song that was actually written by or for someone else.
One where this makes a huge difference in the song itself is Glen Campbell's Southern Nights. The original isn't even the same genre and has a completely different feeling.

>I'M HALF THE MAN I USED TO SNEED

Also; damn near every parody song being misattributed to Weird Al ("Ugly Girl" & "Weenie in a Bottle" being two examples of such that I can recall on the top of my head.) - and of course; among my personal favorites of Limewire-era tagging gaffes: "gorillaz_-_WOOHOO.mp3" (and subsequently, Gorillaz - "Clint Eastwood" having a literalist title of "Sunshine in a Bag" & 19-2000 as "Monkey in a Jungle" - on top of Deltron 3000's Battlesong being misattributed to Gorillaz.)

Last but not least however (surprised that this wasn't already mentioned beforehand): all of those bait-and-switch MP3s that that are all just disguised advertisements/pitches for a scam site (iFreeClub.com) - voiced by a Bill Clinton impersonator:

**I also recall how some spam mechanism on the Limewire files/applications(?) tab (on the GNU[tella?] network?) would frequently yield a generated junk/malware file (can't recall if it was a ZIP/RAR or BAT/executable?) - deriving from whatever keywords inputted from your search; ending it with "naked" - or something akin? Flashbacks to searching up N64 roms back in middle school; and running into those awkward search results of (what I paraphrase as) "duke_nukem_naked" & "banjo_kazooie_naked".

I think my favorite Limewire fuckup was seeing Juke Box Hero being attributed to Journey.

To be fair, it does sound quite a bit like Serj
