I would use Deezer if its name didn't remind me of Deeker.

I just sucked it up and signed up for Google Play Music. I had already started re-building all of my playlists that I had grabbed from Grooveshark's cache so might as well. I'm reluctant to use another free service because I would like a little bit of security from the site I'm using being shut down on me. :(

Although from others who seek more free music things, I hear that Deezer and Rdio are good alternatives. I might glance at Deezer once it becomes available in the US. Also, quite a few people who were running broadcasts on Grooveshark have now moved to plug.dj for the time being.

I used to use Soulseek a lot before I got into torrents. I hear it's still pretty good. I don't think it's hard to get an account on What.cd these days, and it's got pretty much everything in any quality you like. Torrents are the best way to go, but if you don't want to install anything the 4chan /mu/ archive is actually very good. Type in the artist or album you're looking for and the word "mega" and you'll find a DL link if it's not too obscure.
