My Adventures With Superman

Episode 16 down. It's Supes getting a road tour of how Supergirl lives her life. Kara's an oddly chipper dumbass who's being mind controlled by Brainiac into not knowing she turns planets into lifeless husks when she conquers them - they visit Thanagar just to show it's been completely destroyed, and also show a projection of a dead alien with a Green Lantern ring. Well, fuck you too MAWS.
God knows why Brainiac gives her any kind of independent thought. The show is also being inconsistent with when and where Brainiac is tracking her location and anything she sees, says or hears. It reminds me of how Gundam treats Cyber-Newtype women - lobotomized victims of torture forced to be living weapons for a war machine that treats them like tools. Also Kara has a crush on Jimmy after knowing him for half an episode, please do not go /pol/ over it when the real issue is that pairing Jimmy and Kara just sucks from a wider continuity perspective.

Brainiac himself comes off like the usual unfeeling killer robot supervillain, but his dialogue comes off partly like a stand-in for Zod with how obsessed he is with "the empire" and forcing Superman to display his Electric Blue powers in a holodeck and then "kneel" before him. It's pissing me off how eager this show seems to recreate some of the worst parts of Zack Snyder Superman, like the producers at WB didn't learn a goddamn thing from how badly those movies blew over.

You forgot to mention this travesty.

You forgot to mention this travesty.
Forgot indeed.
Yeah, I laughed at that too. Luz has never cared for Clark's feelings like she ought to, and the writers have no idea how badly they fucked up with episodes 5 and 6 by thinking she's in the right to force him to divulge his secrets.

Is there a word for the phenomenon in a lot of shows where they turn simple colourful suits into this bland blocky tech shit with glowing lights? I mean, everything looks bland in this show's art style, but shit like Kara's suit, Parasite's redesign and even Deathstroke look unrecognisable and ugly.

I don't care about that as much as how rushed the reveal was. Movie Lois does something similar in regards to the building jump. I suspect out of fear of not getting a 2nd season they let the cat out of the bag way too early to get the adventure ball rolling. But it was more interesting when Lois was trying to get Clark to spill the beans on his own, the entire first season should have been trying to figure out who he was, maybe even longer than that. Clark doing things that obviously outed him as Superman, but Lois was the only one who noticed was the best part of it.

This scene was genuinely funny, and it isn't called out like "ooh look we made a funny", it's short and sweet.

So I watched some of this show, been reading the comics for a while and figured I might as well see where the differences are and... I don't know, it feels like this show is trying to show more of a "human" Superman without actually coming across as more "human." I don't want soap opera level drama in a Superman show, I want to see him actually helping people beyond "I fight big thing" and "being Clark Kent." People (hipsters?) like this?

forcing Superman to display his Electric Blue powers
What's the point of namedropping and showing Thanagar, showing a Green Lantern ring, or Electric Blue if it's basically just fan service? It's not cool or important, it could have been some alien race they made up for the show, but it had to be a reference? And Electric Blue? Why have that here at all?

Isn't Superman supposed to be inspiring? This is just... boring. It doesn't feel right.

MAWS threads on /co/ continue to be dominated by /pol/ spergery, bitching on and on that a lazy pairing is white genocide. I wish I could just pick up a machine gun and purge 4chan of the /pol/ Harbor occupants.

Episode 17's aired.
Jimmy and Luz team up with Livewire, Heatwave, and a Brain and Monsieur Mallah who've suddenly returned from interdimentional honeymoon to break into STAR Labs and steal a warp-capable spaceship. I'm let down that Intergang, and thus Silver Banshee, don't get brought in to help. Meanwhile Waller's having Lex mass-produce ugly CGI "Metallo" robots to take over the world under the justification of "aliens exist and we must be prepared", which makes Jerry Deathstroke feel outdated. The "Jimmy's money" gag reaches its end as he spends all the money hiring Livewire, who's now able to use all kinds of electric powers (shields, flight, turning into energy) to fight Waller's robot forces, yet still sticks with her boring-ass "bowlcut mercenary woman" design unaltered. Luz realizes she's been a bitch to Clark out of fear and may be more like her dick father than she realizes, as she's brought along a Kryptonite shard for protection against Supergirl, who they run into to end at the same place as last episode.

Oh, and Livewire and Heatwave have a gay full-mouth kiss on-screen and uncensored. It's honestly a pretty low chance anybody takes notice or flips out over this, because who the hell is even watching this show and since when have these two been meaningful characters in it.

Episode 18:
Brainiac's making efforts to mind control Clark into turning evil with the power of reused animation, and Luz, Jimmy and Kara head to his ship to stop him. The show uses the name "Kandor" to describe Brainiac's central processor, and no guesses for what he's calling his FF6 Slave Crowns. There's some time spent on Jimmy and Kara going through the usual "Cannot Spit It Out" stuff, which I know won't matter because I doubt she's staying on Earth after this season's over. Kara asks Brainiac why he memory wipes her, which he obviously answers with "Because your conscience would prevent you from doing it". Dunno why he doesn't try mind controlling her again instead of fighting her here.

In a hilarious turn of events, Clark is broken by Brainiac playing clips, both real and fake, of Luz being a paranoid, xenophobic cunt to him and saying they could never coexist. So Clark's memories get replaced with ones where he lives on Krypton, Brainiac manages to possess Clark and kick Kara's ass, and I start wondering why this show went with Brainiac as their "Kryptonian AI trying to keep an ideal of Krypton alive" villain instead of Eradicator. Jimmy uses the Kryptonite shard on him, but Brainiac counters by saying "I can just move my consciousness into any host, I don't need Superman or Supergirl" and kicks the good guys off his ship before it teleports away with the Kryptonite in tow. Should've stabbed the CPU with it, buddy. At the end, Luz takes a Slave Crown she managed to grab off the ship and puts it on so she can drag Clark out of his tainted mind next episode. The preview shows that she falls into his headspace with amnesia, so who knows if that'll better or worse than her usual insistent cuntiness.

Episode 19. Lots happening and it feels like they're rushing the plot for lack of time. And it's all wobbly construction.
Luz's amnesia wears off almost immediately after she finds Clark again. Clark's in a virtually-constructed mind prison where everyone but him is a Brainiac subsystem, though for some reason aren't Brainiac himself so we can invent a reason for the fake Jor-El and Lara to talk to each other in front of Lois and Clark. For some reason they can't just kick Luz out of the simulation, so she runs around it turning Clark back to normal in a short Edge Of Tomorrow-esque montage as the subsystems keep resetting her progress. She does the My Immortal classic "And then Draco shrieked. “BECAUSE I LOVE HER!”" to break him out of his hypnosis, gains flying brick powers to beat up the construct Kryptonians, and then they punch their way out of the simulation together.
Meanwhile the good guys make it back to Earth and are immediately shot down by Waller's deathmechs (Mallah and Brain just disappear). Jimmy and Kara are arrested - Waller has a Kryptonite shard on her, Deathstroke's there but he never uses any Kryptonite weapons - but are immediately broken out because Jimmy has been broadcasting their capture on his phone and the Daily Planet crew saves the day with...a vehicle blockade. And Waller never uses any of her deathmechs or Deathstroke on them for some reason. Kara gets a pep talk from Steve Lombard to keep fighting even if she gets knocked down, and then Brainiac arrives with his mothership. He beats everyone up for a while and is met with Kryptonite-powered "Metallo" deathbots from Lex.
Right as Brainiac's about to fire his mothership's Star Trek 2009 laser, Superman regains control of his body, gets a costume redesign, and bodyblocks it. So then Brainiac back in his Primus body makes a really crummy "curses foiled again" moan before pressing his "I win" button by coating himself and his mothership in Kryptonite-proof armor out of nowhere and yoinks control of Lex's Kryptonite Metallos to smack Superman and Supergirl down again.

Also the next episode preview has Brainiac saying how he totally wanted to make Earth a subject of Krypton peacefully, never mind how his MO has been "vaporize all life on the planet and stick a flag in the husk". Pretty silly bit of dialogue.

"i want to shoot fellow superman fans over minor disagreements regarding this shitty cartoon pairing"

For such a woke cartoon, it sure loves erasing Superman's cultural custom of wearing red undies over the blue tights. #StopKryptonianH8
So how woke is this anyway? I'm sure it's got its moments.
