My Little Pony Movie thread

Looks like a decent kids film. Animation's pretty good (except for those Super Mario 64 airships CHRIST that's terrible CGI) and the story looks like...well, it's certainly not what I was expecting. Plus, this is the only mainstream 2D animated movie this year so yay for them keeping a medium alive?

I mean it looks fine, 2d animation is nice but oh that cgi is awful and the fact it seem like the background and buildings are most cgi makes it look kind of like that awful top cat movie from a few years ago; only with better voice acting and 2d animation.
Buuuuut
Not gonna lie, gonna watch this . . . like months after it released on netflix as even I think it would be weird and creepy to see it in Cinemas with kids all around, I mean like what you like but have some limits.
I get the feeling either the CGI's unfinished, or it's using a moderately low budget that was mostly spent between the celebs and the 2D animation.

I would lean more toward spending money on celebs, which I mean is kind of dumb as it add nothing and your selling to children who have no idea who they are and just want t see cause they like the show/toys but I hope it just unfinished. Even if it is just unfinished it most likely not gonna look all that good, as it just won't go well with the 2d animation I just think it makes an ugly clash of styles.

I'm just waiting for what Chris and Dobson have to say about this.

Like Chris not talking about it is kinda weird.

Well I am gonna assume one of two extremes from Chris ether he loves the way it looking and won't shut about it, or he hates it then won't shut up about it. Now for dobby I assume something to do with progression and how mostly the ether the pirate and furry cat are lesbians or how twilight and the villain are lesbians, or how every character is a lesbian making the most important film ever made.

I bet there will be some reeeeing about adding traditional furry type characters.

From what I hear, fans already hate the anthro cat as pandering to the furry fandom. From TV Tropes:

"Capper, the bipedal anthropomorphic cat, is so far the most controversial character to be revealed. Some find it odd to see a full-blown Funny Animal in the series, as opposed to the usual Civilized Animals we see, complete with accusations of both pandering to the Furry Fandom and trying to ride the coattails of Zootopia (not helping is that it was stated that Capper's a Con Man, much like Nick Wilde from said film). Others find the character to be interesting and unique, and point out that anthropomorphic cats have appeared in G1 in the form of the villainess Katrina as well as in the IDW comic book as the catlike denizens of Wuvy-Dovey land. Some even consider it to be rather hypocritical considering nobody batted an eye towards the Diamond Dogs (though that may have been because they were more hunched over and ape-like than upright walking Funny Animals)."

More likely it just hasn't shown up on his FB feed or whatever he pays attention to. He's lazy even about his autistic obsessions.

You just know the people raging over this and who ever wrote this fucking wall of autistic text is, have or is going to jerk it to that cat.

I bet he's going to post fifty or so tweets about how little kids should have a safe space and bronies shouldn't see it in theaters or some crap.

Well that Rudolph movie in the 90s wasted all of its budget on celebs, leaving very little for the animation. So it's possible, but I'm hedging my bets that @AnOminous is right and it's simply unfinished.

They're probably doing it because Disney has been doing it since the early 90's (not saying that they weren't doing it before then, but they definitely weren't hiring the most well known names of the day prior to Aladdin (watch someone correct me on that )). Not hiring celebrities/regular actors (or at least relevant ones) for your animated flick is a sure way of announcing that you're releasing a B-movie and shouldn't bother to take the kids (even though you'll pick up whatever from the bargain bin at Walmart later).

No matter what Dobson says publicly he's going to be fantasizing that they're all human and lezzing it up in the courtyard behind the castle. And then inflate and pop.

Huh. I'm surprised that they're using 2d animation for this but then again I'm not. The character designs don't translate very well into 3D if Gary's mod models have proven anything.

This definitely wont be the thing that will bring 2D back to feature length films, that I can say for sure.

They've been doing it since the '86 film at least.

Yes, Danny DeVito and Tony Randall were both in a pony movie over 30 years ago.
