Culture Mysterious metal monolith found in Utah desert - IT'S HAPPENING

If you've seen the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, you'll likely see the resemblance to the monolith at the beginning of the movie.(Utah Department of Public Safety via CNN)

Utah public safety officers were stunned last week when they stumbled on what looked like something out of a sci-fi space film: a chrome monolith standing upright, deep in the remote desert.

The officers were in a helicopter helping wildlife workers count bighorn sheep when they spotted the strange sight.

If you’ve seen the 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” you’ll likely see the resemblance to the monolith at the beginning of the movie.

Pilot Bret Hutchings actually referenced the film when he was commenting on the find.

He guessed that maybe the object was placed by an artist who was a fan of the movie. Hutchings estimated its height at between 10 and 12 feet.

Authorities are investigating the find and aren’t revealing the location of the monolith.

Annnnnnnnnnd it's gone
This feels like an ARG from somebody using it for an internet sensation or an art prop now. even moreso since apprantely its been there since 2016, and nobody reported it until recently. Perhaps an art prop guy forgot about it until now and cleaned it up afterwards.

Friendly reminder that the monolith in 2001 is meant to represent computerized handheld phones and computer screens in general. The title of the show "Black Mirror" is the same concept. An empty black rectangle with all conceivable knowledge within, turning man from primitive form to an ascended form, but in a way that is dark, destructive, and in the end a massive mistake.

Well, since it's actually just a piece of metal someone left behind and not some big alien secret, there weren't dozens of Men in Black standing watch and constantly monitoring it, and someone went and took it. Simple as that.

2001 came out in 1968 retard.

You'd have to literally be able to see into the future to know that phone screens would look anything like the monolith, that handheld computers would be a thing and also telephones, that screens would be black at any point in the first place, or that a library containing "all conceivable knowledge" could be held in one given that the internet wasn't a thing yet.
