I skipped through a video that was about 2.5 hours long (Weds night live stream I think) and it was a mixture of sad, boring and disturbing.

Almost the entire thing was about the carpal tunnel syndrome and this deep seated delusion that the new Zelda was to miraculously change her life. Nothing else matters, there's nothing beyond Breath of the Wild, this is her one and only moment.

Some guy joined the stream and was trying to give fairly decent, if delicately worded, life advice e.g. if wrists affect you playing Zelda then make other goals, have back-up things to focus on. At one point, Narcissa said if she can't speedrun Zelda then she may as well jump off a building.

In her head she's built one video game in to a huge make or break thing. She said she "needs" to play it and the guy was asking why - because it's a passion? To increase subs? To get back to speedrunning? etc. Her answers to most of his pep talk were nondescript and she got annoyed when he called her a nihilist and how suicide isn't bad when it's a way out. She said stuff about she 'made magic in the past' and it's a 'gift from God' (I think referring to the new Zelda as opposed to her talent). Streaming this new game has to be 'magical, validate her and change the world'.

Tbh, I started to doze off during the talk so it's all blurred now but she was being very negative. Talking about suicide because your wrists hurt too much to game fully at the moment is madness. She hasn't even had a scan yet and there's the potential for surgery to fix it. She talks about having ambition and a need to be creative but does these boring, weird streams instead.

For those interested, the jump off a building remark is from the 1 hour 3 minute point.

Kotaku wrote a piece on Narcissa's victorious return to speedrunning today. Unfortunately, Narcissa's Switch and copy of BotW have not arrived yet.

So, the question remains. Do you think Narcissa will actually try and speedrun Breath of the Wild, or do you think he* will continue to do these surreal, boring streams, just muttering at the TV while playing Zelda?

I'm optimistic he will try at least once, maybe even hold a record for a brief amount of time. But it won't stick. Narcy alienated the community of even bigger autists than him that will be collaborating to speedrun the shit out of the game, and they are going to be way more driven than he is. After all, they don't treat a video game like a fucking holy grail. Additionally, Narcy is past his prime and everyone younger than him will have better reflexes and motor skills.

Calling it, he will succeed only momentarily at best, his interest will wane after being beaten and within a couple weeks he'll be back making 5 hour vlogs mumbling to the chasers in his twitch chat.

I think you're underestimating how much BotW means to Narcissa. I think he'll try to hold the record for as long as he can, and when someone takes it, either a violent spergout or the suicide we're all waiting for will occur.

I'm not sure if he will even speedrun it. I thought he was just excited because he likes Zelda and because he would be able to stream the playthrough and get lots of viewers/subs (or so he's hoping). One reason he stopped speedrunning was because of his hands, and that problem doesn't seem to have been resolved, so I expect he wouldn't even be able to touch the record if he tried. He had such an in-depth knowledge of OoT (and knew that stuff earlier than most) which is why he was top of the pile, but now everyone is on an even playing field again.

Either way, it looks like everyone and their gran is streaming BotW so I don't anticipate this being the resurgence that he's hoping for.

Old games are pretty much all completely optimized and are loaded with difficult tricks and glitches. I think Narcissa would have a harder time returning to OOT than she would picking up BOTW.

Yeah, it's just that I've heard the guy say a lot of contradicting things so I didn't really know whether to believe him.

Well the only reason Cosmo was one of the best at OoT was because he was one of the few early speedrunners of the game which meant he discovered/practiced tricks for years before people outside of a few select forums knew about them. And like you say, it's hard for a newbie to pick up because of the barrier to entry, so there wasn't much competition. With BotW, there are going to be tons of people trying to get the WR and I don't see narci being anything special. Especially if there turns out to be some gamebreaking glitches that are simple to pull off, meaning any jabroni can make a viable WR attempt.

He's definitely mentioned the game before. yes. I don't remember details but I remember reading his shit-ass poetry many pages ago and, funny enough, there (in his heart of hearts, supposedly) he wrote how it would make him famous and he'd get to hang around with a ton of female programmers working for him, how he'd become rich and famous and considered a big fucking artist from this award-winning, best-selling, best-of-all-years game (of course, I'm putting it on my own words).

Obviously, as you came to expect from Cosmo, he only sees it as a way to fame and being cherished again as a pop star. I don't think he's ever mentioned anything other than passing details or why the game would be good at all in reasonable terms. He's definitely putting 3% of his entire will to live on a daydream that for most of us would be akin to "going to the Moon once would be pretty cool".

Also, it goes without saying that he has zero resources, experience or practical ways to actually create a game, let alone an amateur title, let alone the triple A game he wants it to be. Your average game now is as expensive as creating a blockbuster movie and with him leading the ship we all know where it'd go - especially considering he has absolutely nothing concrete to move forward with.

Yeah sure, maybe he'd get lucky and find a couple of programmers to help him do it pro bono if the tweets about it - but the only thing being a (once) world-class speedrunner gives him any background to is creating a speedrunning-oriented challenge of a game. In this sense, it would be a good idea but he can't even stay awake on stream, I wouldn't wait for it to happen.
