There's always going to be problems with the end of a race, especially on a plate track. As was astutely pointed out by RC last night, Dale won his under yellow, which... People were pretty universally okay with "Dale wins" but didn't like it ending under yellow. 'Race back to the caution' had problems. The real problem with the current system is it depends on the judgment and reaction time of some official up in race control and I dunno if you guys have ever had a scanner at a race but those guys all sound about 80.

Never gonna be a perfect answer, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the best one... Especially with two of the three races ending with "NASCAR has to go back to the tape to figure out who the hell won" which is fun when it's a legit photo finish and not when it's figuring out when the button was pushed.

Also they kept going on about 'it's not the lights, it's when the BUTTON was pushed' which if there's more than 100ms delay between those two things happening in 2023 you need to go back to Whelan and tell them they're fucking doing it wrong.

Again, I'll mostly regret that KFB's victory speech tonight wasn't "How ya like me now, Coach?"

Good send off for Real Fontana, shame it has to end. Wish I was there for the Xfinity race, that sunset looks great, but most of all, pouring one out for Greg Moore. 🍻

He wishes to be Shaun Palmer, but he isn't at the end of the day.

Who could blame him honestly?

#51 Rick Ware Racing driver, son of Rick Ware, weeaboo and all-around autist Cody Ware was arrested this previous weekend and charged with felony assault by strangulation inflicting serious injury and misdemeanor assault on a female, in connection to an incident that occurred on April 3rd.
Currently released from jail on a $3,000 bond.

Toby Christie - Cody Ware Arrested and Charged With Felony Assault by Strangulation

Interesting to note is that Rick Ware's other son Carson has also previously been arrested on assault and property damage charges. Guess something runs in the family? lol

The current driver of the #51 is, as far as I know, Matt Crafton from here on out. Probably subject to change.

Good lord that's an ugly mug. What is up with the Ware genes?

Anyway, considering Kurt Busch has been suspended (which was lifted) for alleged domestic assault and Tony Stewart was sued for negligent homicide and manslaughter but was not suspended, I wonder how long it will take before Cody is back to a ride.

I could be very wrong and make zero sense but to my knowledge, NASCAR doesn't outright ban people with sordid histories unless it's drugs (Jeremy Mayfield) or someone being a kiddie diddler (Rick Crawford)

Oh well, this is by far the most exciting news currently.

Or "drugs" where the drug was so much pussy he got AIDS (Tim Richmond).

Mayfield isn't even perma'd. He'd just have to do the drugs program to get reinstated, which he refuses to do because it would be admitting his love of meth, and I don't think anyone'd want him anyway, at this point.

Which is probably what will happen to Cody. There'll be a path, but who wants a literal otaku sperg? It's a stretch even for daddy.

Can't believe I've seen so many people actually enjoy the Bristol Dirt races.

Personally, I think 40 percent of the race being under yellow is boring as fuck.

Ah, pardon me. I guess I got sucked into propaganda because people acted as if he was blacklisted and NASCAR didn't want to listen to him proclaim his total innocence which he continues to do to this day AFAIK.

I remember people using Mayfield as a springboard to shit on Bill France because of his own substance abuse issues.

He'll probably pay his way to a ride somehow or drop down to a lower division instead. Or get pity-hired because of his Assburgers.

Besides, if people want to give a ride to eternal bitch queen Bubba Wallace, Cody should have no problem getting back in, otaku or not.

Not that I want him back. He's extremely mediocre.

Should probably say a thing or two about the current quality of the racing nowadays.

I blame the officials and the rule changes too.

Enjoy or "enjoy"? It seems to me like there's quite a disconnect between the people shouting the loudest online and the people who actually are watching the sport. Everyone I've ever talked to in the stands (people who actually pay money to watch racing) think covering Bristol in dirt is stupid. The attendance is still bad. They changed the date to Easter evening where it would run unopposed because no one was watching.

Yet, online, if you say one negative thing either about the concept of the race or the racing itself, redditors and terminally online twitteroids will tear you to pieces like you just insulted a family member. The first time I've ever seen Reddit turn on Bubba Wallace was when he said that the race was a dumb gimmick. I've seen sane comments about the low quality of the racing and the gimmicky nature of the race get downvoted to oblivion while every single motte gets baileyed and question gets begged that you could possibly imagine:
-Kyle Petty hated Darlington, therefore the multiple drivers who hate this race don't matter
-A racing series can't call itself a "world championship" if it doesn't include every discipline
-Who cares if these cars aren't made for dirt racing because T-Birds and Monte Carlos raced at Watkins Glen or something
-If you really cared about Nascar going back to its roots you would support this/if you supported North Wilkesboro and not Dirt Disaster you're a hypocrite
-Daytona and Talladega were also "gimmicks"

Every time someone expresses a negative opinion on whatever dumb gimmick the sport is trying to drum up publicity, these people come out of nowhere to sing the praises of the Phelps administration. Same thing with the Chicago race. The sane commenters who can tell that the race isn't going to be interesting or entertaining get drowned out by an endless chorus of "THE SPORT NEEDS TO TRY NEW THINGS CHUD". Even when confronted with the objective reality of what a logistical nightmare that race is going to be and how much the residents of that area hate it, the redditors approach it in the sense of "oh, I wish it would have worked out so that a new market could see Nascar" instead of realizing that it was an obviously stupid idea from the start.

Sorry for the MATI rant, but these people and their blind defense of every stupid decision, rule change, etc. that Nascar makes almost puts me in tinfoil hat tier. Why are all these terminally online people doing this? I've never seen internet fans of any sport, motor- or not, be as persistent in defending the sanctioning body's decisions as Nascar fans are. And it's a recent thing, too. Five years ago when Drunk Brian was in charge, there was just as much criticism from the online community as F1 fans still fling at the FIA. Honestly, at this point I fully accept that Nascar is paying shills.

I'm not honestly sure. I know why the press corps is cowed, but not so much the 'fans'. Is Phelps enough of an ESG golden boy that it means even goin' against Bubba? That hardly makes sense.

if you supported North Wilkesboro and not Dirt Disaster you're a hypocrite
This is particularly infuriating. North Wilkesboro is a classic short track (and it once was dirt, they were going to run sprint cars on it last fall until the all star race meant no repave), the current construction of Bristol isn't conducive to being dirt. And they're unwilling to make the changes that are needed to make Cup cars good dirt racers. Tons of power, remove the windshield.... Maybe. Still too heavy. People bring up Eldora like it'd be 'the fix', but the cars are still not good for it. How about Eldora for the Clash? We seem to not care anymore how many people show up for the Clash, so the small venue's fine, and it'd probably generate good hype.

Chicago's going to be interesting. Be hilarious if they get kicked out after a year like they're making noises about. Also I just don't think the track layout is any good.

Quoting myself here but the whole "Mayfield is innocent" mantra is prevalent in the NASCAR youtube community. Unlike Tony Stewart's "Incident with Kevin Ward", it's generally uniform in what people think.

I was watching this video and all the comments are basically taking Mayfield's side while blaming Bill France.

This guy does take a more neutral stance but then there are bigger ones like SlapShoes who don't.

Anyway, due to timezones, I'll have to wait until I can see today's Talladega race so I was just looking up the points standings currently. Christopher Bell is the points leader right now and I am personally indifferent to it. I have no feelings for Bell so I'll be completely apathetic if he ends up winning the Cup.

I recall when I was younger, I always felt bad for Hamlin who has never won a championship but right now, I'd love Ross Chastain to take the championship home.

But alas, it's way too early to say.
