Not going back to the 40s is stuck in the past to these people. Amazing.

The cars just are not made for it. I admit I thought it was cool when the trucks did a dirt race but after seeing why it actually sucks, yeah leave it out. Especially if it got us North Wilkesboro back somehow.

It works for the trucks because they're slower and boxier and resemble late models in many ways. The Gen 7 Cup cars are closer to IMSA GTD cars than any class you might see at your local dirt oval.
 
Apparently the dirt shitshow drew record ratings even with all the rain and the stands being half empty, so it's going to be on the calendar for the foreseeable future. Sigh.

I know it drew ratings but I don't think they're sustainable and I hoped Nascar would have enough integrity not to keep doing it. Let the trucks have Eldora as their own special thing and move the Cup cars to the Fairgrounds, NW or Rock if Spring Bristol really can't draw on the asphalt. Ratings don't matter if the sport is being made a mockery of.

In other news, SMI seems to be deliberately trying to kill Dover which is very sad to hear. It's not the greatest track on the schedule but it's a long-runner and one that the drivers love, and it's close to several major metropolitan areas. I've got my tickets there in 2 weeks and am hoping to experience it before it gets turned into an Amazon warehouse.
 
Dover's one of the few places I've been to a race, and it was fun. (the 98 IRL race, which was a fucking lolfest) It's also well positioned like you say, to get people from the big East Coast markets. Not a great move to eliminate it if you want to pull a 'wider audience'.

And I was meh about the dirt. I'd rather just have regular Bristol.
 
If anything, they need to get rid of New Hampshire for all the murder it was responsible for.
 
Again, I've been away. Is Fox always this fucking bad?

The Xfinity race they called the pole as being 'for Daytona'. And watching the pre-race they got their storylines crossed, asking Jeb Burton how cool it was going to be having Richard Childress as his spotter.

I don't think callin' it on TV is all that easy, I could never keep all the backmarker's liveries straight, I know, but fuck, you guys don't know what state you're in.

Favorite part was the Jackie Robinson of Car Racing spinning out on the final lap and the ensuing butthurt from the pronoun brigade.
 
...and Denny Hamlin has to do sensitivity training for calling Kyle Larson an Asian driver with Family Guy memes on Twitter. Funny enough, but a fascinating choice when you're working for Minority Race Team Inc.(tm) and drive for Toyota.

It's honestly out of left field, since Denny is the poster boy of boring, uninteresting, corporate loved NASCAR. Maybe he's getting frustrated Krut and Bubba are imploding and Michael Jordan is wanting out.

That was my question this year, would the 'minority owners' stick around

Oddly I thought it'd be Trackhouse on the ropes, though Melon Man is pretty charismatic and winning, and Suarez is doing okay.

Pitbull from what I know is an unironic NASCAR fan, and Dale Earnhardt enjoyer so he's based in my book. Him part owning the latest heirs to DEI isn't a coincidence, considering Ganassi Racing merged with Dale Earnhardt Inc, which was sold to Justin Marks at Trackhouse. Couple that with Ross not giving a fuck about other drivers feelings like the old number 3, and it's feeling awful good to be a Trackhouse fan right now.

I hope Suarez can get at least one win so the amigo and sombrero memes happen.

To be fair, Denny Hamlin (I think), was also one of the first NASCAR drivers that was given the "actions detrimental to NASCAR" penalty, which IIRC is a buzzword used by the league, to punish drivers for supposedly made-up reasons.
 

Mr. Worldwide is now making singles mentioning his NASCAR team. The media coming from Team Trackhouse and Pitbull himself is pretty good right now. (Plus the song isn't bad) I'm also expecting a really good showing today as well, since Dover is historically one of the few speedways Suarez was good in from previous years. And this year he actually has a stellar car and team behind him. Both boys qualified in the top 10, so this should be good.

I really admire EmpLemon. I have no interest in pro-wrestling or NASCAR, but he has such a gift for explaining things that he can take anything and make it thrilling. Can catch that little glimpse of what it is other people see in it.
 
I attended Dover yesterday. I hate to inform Mr. Phelps and Mr. Wallace that their plans to "diversify" and "progressivize" the fanbase has not worked. The crowd is still mainly white redneck boomers in Chase Elliott shirts, and the younger generation is also white rednecks. I saw a handful of blacks, which was surprising to me since I grew up at Bristol where there were none, but they all were on the older side and wearing Elliott/Larson gear as well, so I figured they'd been coming for a while. It's the closest track to DC and Philly so it's not a big surprise that you'd get some People Of Melanin in the crowd.

I think I saw more white people wearing Bubba gear than the total number of black people I saw. There was one obvious fruit looking guy wearing a rainbow "Nascar is for Everyone" shirt but he was obviously doing it for the attention. My section got a Let's Go Brandon chant going and booed Bubba Wallace. Even saw a couple rebel flags flying off the fan merchandise tents. I think the redditors and YouTube brigade are going to be sorely disappointed that the fanbase is still over 90% rural whites and this new wave of minority and genderspecial fans they like to claim is turning out because of Phelps' virtue signaling apparently doesn't exist.

Brad Dougherty has been involved in NASCAR for awhile.
 
I used to watch NASCAR, but I stopped watching a long time ago. Ever since Winston stopped sponsoring the top series in 2003, NASCAR has gone through many different title sponsors for the Cup series. It was the Nextel Cup, the Sprint Cup, the Monster Energy Cup, and now they have no title sponsor.

About Bubba Wallace, he's as privileged as one can get. Wendell Scott back in the sixties and seventies received a ton more hate and bad reactions than Bubba ever did, but never once did he complain. Instead, he just handled it with dignity. Bubba of course gets special treatment, and NASCAR refuses to learn that Bubba is a midpack racer at best who fluked his way to a victory due to rain, and only does well at plate tracks, where anyone can do well.
