Well, the judge just revoked his pro se status because he would not wear a mask in the courtroom for a routine status conference. From PACER:

For someone as fucked as him going at it alone, I do not doubt he thinks not wearing a mask is going to some how work in his favor.

Why? I don't have a clue but I can just tell he's fucking stupid enough to think he's got a plan.

Too bad his sentencing is delayed. I wanted to see the outcome.
Sentencing? Nah, this is just the beginning.

If he pleads guilty, then yes, he will be sentenced. If he doesn't, it goes to trial and he'll probably (okay, who am I kidding, definitely) be found guilty.

In any case, he could probably try to turn the courtroom into a spectacle but the judge would have the Marshals escort him out. He's fucked either way, and the least he can do is get himself held in contempt of court.

Nah, he's just a big gay baby that never got off of his mommy's teets and was never told no

Too bad he's absolutely going to be in protective custody. With this guy, they might even have to put him in double protective custody from even the other protective custody perps.
I wonder if he's going to get mental health treatment in prison, because he has several screws loose.

Yes and no. Generally, most mental health treatment in prison is not compulsory. Typically, inmates will undergo a mental health evaluation as part of the intake process, but further mental health treatment is generally requested by the inmate/patient. In very rare cases, inmates are given involuntary medications, but this is reserved for patients who are seriously mentally ill. It's highly unlikely that Nathan would receive this kind of treatment. That said, it's also quite possible that he will be required to be evaluated (and possibly treated) as a sex offender as a condition of his sentencing - this treatment is considered a mental health service, and is performed by mental health professionals. Most sex offender treatment programs (compulsory or otherwise) tend to occur closer to the end of sentencing - so it's unlikely that he would receive treatment any time in the near future.

Another consideration is that some of these evaluations will result in a person being classified as a sexually violent predator (the term varies from state to state, and I'm sure that the Federal BOP has its own classification system). In some state systems, if a person is determined to be a risk to the community after the end of their prison sentence, they can be civilly committed for the rest of their lives.

If you're curious, there is information on treatment programs and federal BOP policies available here.

I was just done binging the thread of Nick Bate's trial way back in 2016.
Should someone make one for Nathan too once a trial date is confirmed, or is it not worth it?

Just curious.

A status conference was held in Nathan Larson's case on Thursday. Larson did not physically attend as he again refused to wear a mask. However, as Judge Thurston revoked Nathan Larson's pro se status earlier, the conference was able to proceed with Larson's re-appointed attorney.

The U.S. Attorney's Office offered Nathan Larson a plea bargain. The docket sheet does not elaborate on its specifics. The next conference is scheduled for July 2022.

Must be a somewhat decent one, then. They probably don't want to spend more effort on a trial when Nathan can simply get it over with. He's 40, so anything more than 60 years in prison may or may not be overkill (as far as his age is concerned).

I wish he'd just shut up and go to the hearings, but who am I to judge?

Incarceration significantly shortens a person's life expectancy, and given that Larson's dad died at the relatively young age of 69, I don't think Larson's prospects of ever leaving federal prison alive are great. Vast majority of federal criminal cases end in plea deals so I wouldn't read too much into it.

And while we're on the subject of watching someone face deserved time in federal prison, might as well post this classic.

It's going to be a long wait, the Eastern District of California is one of the most understaffed, if not the most, federal district courts in the country.

I wouldn't be surprised if sentencing takes place early/mid 2024.

I'll defer to your experience, since you seem to be more versed in law than me, but if it is 2024 that would mean two more years of waiting for the trial/sentencing/plea agreement/whatever it is Nathan is doing.

But I can wait two years. We all can, I think.
