The NBA fined Hornets star LaMelo Ball $100,000 after he made an anti-gay comment during an interview following Charlotte’s 115-114 upset win over the struggling Bucks at home Saturday.
Ball had been talking about the last play of the game, where Grant Williams successfully defended Giannis Antetokounmpo at the top of the key and forced a contested jumper for the win — which missed off the front of the rim.
“We loaded up,” Ball said, before adding “no homo” while lowering his voice.
The NBA released a statement with their fine Sunday, saying Ball made “an offensive and derogatory comment” postgame.

Ball, who has dealt with injuries throughout his career after taking the Rookie of the Year award, is in the early stages of a career year, averaging 29.6 points, 6.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds through the first 12 games while helping Charlotte collect a 5-7 record.

Since being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Ball has played in more than 51 games just once during his career, appearing in 75 games during the 2021-22 campaign and earning the lone All-Star Game nod of his career.

Ball logged just 58 combined games across the two years that followed, though, and in 2023-24, he sustained an ankle injury during a January game and missed the rest of the year.

“He’s like the engine for us,” head coach Charles Lee told reporters following their season-opening win on Oct. 23, when Ball scored 34 points and dished out 11 assists. “If we have a healthy LaMelo Ball, we’re going to do a lot of really good things because I know that he’s going to continue to grow and he helps everyone around him continue to be better, too.”

The Hornets face the Cavaliers on Sunday in Cleveland, and they’ll attempt to hand them their first loss of the season.

1. pro sports players are ridiculously overpaid
2. they spend their money on typically super gay shit like sportscars

You know those clips where morons in nightclubs buy expensive bottles of alcohol and just spray them all over the place or on the floor? I hope that kind of culture takes root within professional sports and they start saying shit like "faggot" and "nigger" and "autistic" to show off their wealth.

I mean if you're gonna say it, then you should own it and if you have to pay $100k every time you say "homo" then it is even more badass.

NBA players dress like they are going to the Met Gala to suck tranny dick when they do their walk from bus to locker room pre-game now and aren't there a bunch of open faggots playing in the league now?

"no homo" was always a suss thing to say anyway. I would never think to qualify my statement by specifying that I didn't mean it in a gay way. Only faggots are self conscious about unintentional double entendre.

The most offensive thing about this is that someone named their kid 'LaMelo'.
His dad's a lolcow:
Following a series of bold statements in the spring of 2017, Ball began repeatedly making national sports headlines. His early remarks included saying that his son Lonzo was better than Stephen Curry and claiming that he himself could defeat Michael Jordan one-on-one in basketball. He was subject to both praise and criticism as he continued making similar comments, some of which involved his company, Big Baller Brand. Ball has made several appearances on national TV and has routinely drawn attention from major sports media outlets. He has also been in the spotlight for his criticism of his sons' teams, most notably the Lakers for their treatment of Lonzo, as well as for his exchange with U.S. President Donald Trump after LiAngelo was detained in China for shoplifting.

“Well if you’re waiting for it, hurry up and get in touch with pay per view because me and Mike ain’t playing for less than $200 million. That’s what we say. If you’re going to watch Mike Tyson at 50, you’re going to watch me and MJ play just 1-on-1 for pay per view only. And it better be over $200 million…If the people in the world want to see that 1-on-1, they going to have to pay a price. From the greatest of all-time to the coldest of all-time. Triple B’s baby!”

And he was on RAW:

When I first saw this, I thought he said faggot, which would be incredibly stupid to fine still, but at least it's a "slur." However, "no homo" has not only never been a slur, but is constantly used by gay people as a joke. I don't think many people on the left would seriously even defend this.

Anyway, I also wouldn't call Lavar a lolcow. He was an attention whore who would say anything to get eyes on his 3 sons. He knew what he was doing.

Like when he had one of his sons refuse a lucrative shoe contract in favor of endorsing his own Big Baller Brand, which fizzled due to poor business practices and his partner embezzling money?
Sports apparel giants Nike, Adidas and Under Armour were reportedly prepared to offer UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball, a top prospect in the 2017 NBA draft, a $10 million shoe contract, but his father, LaVar Ball, wanted a "more lucrative" deal.

ESPN's Darren Rovell reported the information during an appearance this week on the Dan Patrick Show, per Brad Crawford of 247Sports.

"We said Tiger (Woods) might be the next Jordan taking over, but there is no next Jordan in basketball or probably no next Jordan anywhere," Rovell said. "I know that's going to disappoint LaVar Ball, but I think you have to say that."

Rovell went on to say LaVar Ball is betting on his Big Baller Brand rather than taking a deal that could have doubled his son's rookie salary. The ESPN business reporter told Patrick he's surprised the patriarch didn't take a different route after the Los Angeles Lakers landed the second overall pick.

"It's strange to me that LaVar didn't at least fold some of his cards and go back to the shoe companies in earnest," he said. "After the Lakers thing goes down and the perfect scenario is going to unfold, the new deal, Nike (to) five years and $20 million. But what does LaVar Ball do? Instead of saying he now wants $1 billion, he now wants $3 billion."

Ball previously made waves when Slam confirmed his son's first signature shoe would be released without the backing of any of the major shoe companies and would cost $495.
LaVar Ball Reportedly Declined $10 Million Lonzo Shoe Deal

Lonzo Ball filed a lawsuit Tuesday night in Los Angeles Superior Court against Big Baller Brand’s co-founder, Alan Foster, claiming he “conspired to embezzle millions of dollars and then divert those funds for his personal use, including to acquire assets in Ethiopia,” according to court documents obtained by ESPN.

Lonzo, who recently covered up his Big Baller Brand tattoo, cut ties with family friend Foster for not being able to “adequately account for the whereabouts of roughly $1.5 million from Ball’s personal and business accounts,” ESPN reported.

The NBA star told ESPN that Foster “used his access to my business and personal finances to enrich himself.”

I won't deny some of it is deliberate shitposting, like when he claimed Trump lost the election because of their feud. But I also think some of it is plain old stupidity.

They're appealing to their sponsors.
Okay, then let's say they're appealing to Nike. What message does it say? "We love faggots, and Nike loves faggots!" - what type of a nigger would want to wear sneakers that are associated with being a faggot? That female lingerie company whose name eludes me now, suddenly started putting fatasses and trannies in their posters, got skullfucked when their sales dropped, and immediately went back to previous types of ads with sexy women. Not saying that one act of faggot endorsement is on the same level of exposure as changing the ad strategy, but it's still a dumbass move that alienates the core customer base.
