It was interesting reading that Ted went through a depressed phase early on of believing that he had no chance of having any impact on society intellectually or materially, so his early bombings were purely 'personal revenge' motivated, rather than 'drawing attention to a revolutionary idea'.

He seems to have been wrestling with hard vs. soft pseudo-biological determinism, where he thinks that;

• we can only flourish best as hunter gatherers
• humans are stuck chasing the 'shiny technology',
• that nature is going to correct us back to the pastoral/hunter-gatherer life,
• but for the first 20 odd years of his adult life he's unsure how much affect any group of people can have on speeding that along.
