I thought it was a cool idea at first, until they started talking about how the old web was just "white nerdy guys" and the problems with Capitalism. Then I found this thread and the depth of the depravity was revealed.

I could immediately tell that this was going to be a piece of shit when I saw the artstyle and troon avatar. "Don't reccomend this channel" insta clicked.
Also for some reason it's cool in libtard circles to co-opt "classic 4chan" while scooting around the casual racial hatred.

I tried to browse neocities, I mean I like the idea of a web revival. But a lot of them are just the same pastel rainbow vomit gif galleries, with the about me section being full of mental illnesses and faggotry. It's as bad as Lainchan's webring where everybody is "I like linux, I like lain, I don't like social media."

Notice how there is usually no hobbies outside "I like media" and "I like programming". Don't be gay and do crime, try being and actual human being instead.

It's a darn shame.

It baffles me that these type of people will make videos like these or say "oh, I miss the old Web, let's make the Web free again!", while still being terminally online on Twitter and Discord. I checked around the OP's neocities, and surprise surprise, he seems to be really active on twitter. If he cared so much about the Internet and hated algorithms so much, why doesn't he use something like XMPP or IRC? Seems to be a common mindset amongst Neocities users, they'll say how much they hate the "new Web" but don't do jack shit to stand out with their websites, except add dozens of mental illnesses onto their about page.
I remember in the 2010s, personal websites would have things like oekaki boards, forums, chat rooms, etc, while still hosting their own original content like drawings or guides for games. Of course, since these people want to follow a trend and basically have a glorified carrd as their websites, they don't do any of that.

That reminds me. Back in the mid-late 00s we had a bunch of free hosts out there that allowed PHP, letting teenagers and poorfags play with server-side scripting without having to pay a cent. The one I used even allowed MySQL so you could run your own forum or blog. Nowadays, though, they've all gone under or dropped their free plans.

Do we have a modern equivalent to that, something free that lets you do more than static pages? I get that it'd be more expensive to run (plus PHP's not too popular these days; maybe offer something else?), but right now it seems like your options are to use a free static host like Neocities, pay for a VPS or shared hosting, or self-host and expose your IP to the world. Pick any two of free, safe, and dynamic. Maybe some of those tilde communities let you do server-side scripting, but I've never messed with them so I'm not sure.

I know most of them are just chasing a trend but who knows, maybe a few really do want to run a website with dynamic features but just don't feel like paying.

It's very ironic how these people complain about the Internet being too "centralized" or "bland" or whatever, while they perpetrate that blandness by continuing to use the social media they stand against. They never practice what they preach; all of them use twitter, discord while claiming to hate what those are.
Their "sites" are equally bland, just a somewhat glorified carrd with a badge signaling "look, I'm one of the cool kids because neocities.org!". It's so uninspired. The sites that Neocities should be used for, ideally must serve an educational or entertainment/creative purpose, if not just a blog. They have to understand that no one cares about their 50 sets of pronouns or what boring overrated for-trannies-by-trannies video game/show they're autistic about. No one, with a developed prefrontal cortex, will want to look at those sites, because they never have anything of value on them.
I just dislike how uncreative they are whilst claiming themselves otherwise.

• These users are the other side of Reddit. The techbro, "new is always good" kind of Musk worshippers. Those people were sperging about how NFTs will make them rich.

The only thing actually better in the modern web is the infrastructure, (disregarding the horribly biased companies) I like my bandwidth and strong servers. They are nice.
