Neocities and the Yesterweb - The Second Coming of Tumblr. Led by a massive group of extremist hypocrites that go by neopronouns and full of webrings devoted to "transing the internet".

I will admit I am conflicted on the issue. On one hand I am glad that people actually messing around in HTML and stuff like that. On the other hand, it's mostly a show for social media.

I even enjoy the pastel gif vomit aesthetic on some level.

A big problem with personal webpages is... all the good info, content will be aggregated on wikis and social media anyway. I wanted to make a website myself, but all I could make is a shitty blog. Nobody would have any reason to look at it. If there was something neat, it would be just uploaded on a wiki or flanderised by a Youtuber and nobody would visit the webpage anyway.

honestly I think this was a problem even on fansites that were created years ago. for example, Pokémon fansites in the late 2000s and early 2010s did feel a bit copypasted when it came to their content regarding the games, they'd just copy from Serebii or Bulbapedia or whoever at the time, but I think the reason why they did that was to bluff and have enough pages in order to get affiliates.
If you want to make a website, I still think you should go ahead and do it, you're making it for yourself, after all. If it gets attention, well, that's nice, but if it doesn't, it shouldn't stop you from putting in a lot of passion and effort into the site. There's always something nice about making something from scratch, instead of using a website builder or putting some gifs and unicode bullcrap on a social media page and calling that "customisation".

And the "original content" to account for all the regurgitation was just made-up crap and that's how tons of rumours spread.

That's kinda the main problem for me at the end of the day, I like seeing people create their own personal sites, I don't care whether it's a genuinely good piece of media, a oversaturated mess of pronouns, or a seriously questionable reimagining of the old web by someone who was four when it was still a popular thing, because it's STILL somebody who learned at least a smidge of html and wanted to create something for themselves, but the issue is it's all performative.
People preach about how shitty and centralized the web is today, but they own a fucking Twitter account, they add to the issue by using Discord for all their chats, imagine how socially fucked they'd be any time it went down. Caard, Neocities, and Space.hey are just the trendy thing to do, it's all style no substance, I just want them to be a little more genuine, is all.

People forgot how to be genuine. I guess the antidote for the modern web is just be yourself and do it for yourself and not for the social media up votes.

sadgrl.online, a major pioneer in making Neocities such a dogshit place to be, has quit Neocities and abandoned her website
lol, of course this couldn't last

Sad.grl seems to have returned and rebranded as goblin-heart.net for reasons not-yet clarified. Seeing as this happened on March 1st, with the latest update being on March 10th, I'm not sure it's a genuine return as much as it is just her trying to hide her history without outright deleting it for some reason. The new page is very barebones and more preoccupied with listing zodiac signs or books she's read than making anything useful like sad.grl did, so i'm not sure what to make of it.

On that same note: the original sad.grl website now has this notice on it:

1715575522571.png
and has been relegated to an offshoot of goblin-heart, with all old sad.grl links redirecting to "goblin-heart.net/sadgrl/[page url here]".

The only real changes due to this are her adopting an anime goblin as her avatar, changing her url, and making all of her actually-useful tools a little harder to access. It's all pretty passive compared to what she used to do, which is ironic considering the Free Palestine badge on her homepage and her About section going on about how you need to participate in things to see real change in both yourself and others.

Bit of a shame that this has been the only real "happening" since I last checked up on this place a few months ago. The entire website's done nothing but continue to circlejerk stale tranny cum since I last checked up on it. Worst of both worlds: we don't get milk, but the site's userbase doesn't get any better. Will post here again if that changes.

Great update, everyone involved in Yesterweb is fucking nuts so it's good to see that the shit-show hasn't ended quite yet. I went to see if I could find what Madness has been up to as of late, and I thought I was boned for a second when I came across pic related.

(https://crimson.earth/ | https://proletarian.neocities.org/)

After a wee bit of poking around though, I ended up coming across the new URL which mentions this on the homepage.

"This website has been discontinued, but this writing will continue elsewhere in the future." ~ Bit weird that Madness has also rebranded right around the same time as Sadness, isn't it? Almost like it's organised, or something.

Wonder what made them suddenly change domain names and username on Neocities? According to Archive.org, their old proletarian.neocities URL redirected to this new proletarian-library.neocities one back in February this year, but no longer does so for some reason. I didn't actually realise that changing your URL was even possible on Neocities, but it seemingly can be done if his NC user page is anything to go by, as it's the same one his original proletarian.neocities URL was associated with. Weird. Maybe NC's owner did it for them, or maybe this is some feature I'm just not aware of?

Too bad they're crazy
As seems to be the M.O for anyone still on Neocities. :(

Cool website, though, thanks for posting! Glad to see that some people are still trying to make original layouts. I hope that, with sad.grl's layout builder a little less easy to access, there might be a slow increase in those.

Don't know if this counts as off topic but is there a possibility of Neocities pulling a plug on my site if I make a site for posting opinions or whatever?

Free websites may and can go down at any time. Unless you have access to their state of finances, you won't know for sure how long they will stay up.

Neocities has lasted for a while, but to be safe, keep a backup of your website anyway.

There's probably a risk, but I've seen a podcast by some /pol/ autist and another site from a self-proclaimed incel (well, looks like he's renamed to "wizard") that are still up after several years. Even the old instance of ReeEra is still up despite linking to KF right there at the top.

That said, with the amount of trannies there and the sacred cow status they have on 99% of the internet, you'd probably get banned for criticizing them specifically.

So just mind my own business? I only really want to write opinions about media I like or share artwork I make so I could survive. I will see what I can do on Neocities.
