Surely they could get away with it now, considering how much larger and higher-resolution phone screens have become over the years. It's not 2014 anymore where you have to fit everything into a 4" rectangle.

I mean I'd hope so, Sturgeon's law and all that, as bad as the sites are played up to be here, most of them are just blogs with poor web design and the most objectionable parts being the inescapable grooming hotbeds that get worse and worse as they spread across the internet from every angle. Also, most of them immediately get abandoned when the novelty wears off.
They're not gonna get anymore traffic than they already do, anyway, because it's the same problem with places like Spacehey: you go there, make a neat little profile, then sit around not doing jack shit aside from look at other profiles, because the only conversations there are the same ten 14 year olds talking about how cool the internet used to be before they were born.

They just don't want to. Youtube's spent years draining all the color from its UI, it's not gonna suddenly let you customize your channel again.

Fucking mobile shit officially and undeniably got out of hand the instant this was considered an acceptable interface for a goddamn desktop.

The first site example you posted is Dimden's, he is also the owner of Nekoweb. I follow him on Twitter since he is also the one who created Old Twitter and Old Tweetdeck extensions which bring back the old look for Twitter which I actually really like.
It's interesting that he is trying to revitalize the old look. I'm not against it, but he is at a big risk of trooning out by the looks of it, which is a shame if/when it'll happen.

You'd have to have people with the will and ability to make that work and approval from the top. There's a reason youtube's UI only keeps getting worse: none of the pajeets running youtube care about anything besides their next paycheck and don't even have the talent to bring back the original version from 2008 on desktop only. Not that anyone would ever get the chance, with youtube going full retard against adblockers they obviously need every penny they can get, and won't waste it on things like "user experience."

Its hard for me to be that mad at neocities because while they host very mentally ill individuals they also seem to host people on the other extreme too with no issues. The easiest example is Crunklords page but there is also Pnn america (or /pol/ news network america) whose website not only hosts a full blown domain on their site now but also has over 200k views; https://pnnamerica.com/

I don't know what's going on. I also saw a full blown nazi site recently. I think it's just mostly unmoderated and no-one pays attention if no-one complains ...which is how things should be, discounting histrionic crybabies.

You know, come to think of it I think tumblr is kind of the same way. Yeah their primary demographic is alphabet mfs there is tons of fansites for the completely other side of the isle.

I mean is there even an alternative to neocities that isn't full of / hosted by weird people?
I can appreciate there's a place to host your own thing and have freedom of speech outside of social media. I think banning users for different ideologies would defeat the purpose of something like neocities

Shame that I like some of the designs on NekoWeb and Neocities, cause it means I have to associate them with some of the most insane fucking people on the internet that makes even the most shameless troon look harmless in comparison. But, other than noticing Censorship Pandas on some pages of these furries, I would like to include one example that Anonitolia didn't get to include: Covidae., who is one of the more deranged people I've seen on this platform. (no archive due to the nature of the site)

Front page can tell me a few things about this thing already: She's a plural pooner therian who's a part of the Transing the Internet webring, has that ever-so-cliche space background, shitty fanart of her "OC", talks in a "quirky" fashion, and has so many scroll boxes than you can shake a stick at. Additional notable links and rings are also a "XENICS" webring, is autistic as hell, an alterhuman believer and skeleton-romantic, totally a demon, anti-AI yet also anti-copyright, and...well, time to show some more interesting tidbits.

And now the best part, the genders and pronouns she collects like trinkets, even including the trinketgender. Bonus terms include "hisuizoroartrix", "zekromic", "voidpunk" (basically turning objectification into a "marginalized minority"), a bunch of star and space theme shit, and....webgender. You guys aren't lying when you say these people are lunatics.

Other points of interest include the shitty-ass plural system of pre-existing characters in her mind, resources that include 4 links relating to Palestine activism and piracy despite the site having rules against hosting pirated content which I guess includes sites (but she is a supporter so she does get a free pass), highly into mental health research (even though she herself is already a perfect specimen of lunacy), and has so much girly stuff that is suggested, shown, and promoted that it just only proves my point that these people are groomed to become this way.

Longpost over. I honestly found her to be a interesting subject to look into.

It's funny that it's possible to say this sentence without getting your ass kicked and being told to go outside.

It's also interesting that on both Carrd and Neocities (both sites with an extremely overlapping userbase, to the point they might as well be the same damn site) there's a shit ton of "systems" larping as having whole families worth of fictional characters in their head. It appears elsewhere, too, but with nowhere near the same consistency or lack of people to contest it, are you really telling me this many people actually have this likely fake mental illness and there's only these TWO websites where they actually congregate? Usually, I don't buy the whole "sparkly troons intentionally mass grooming children to become trans" panic (Except for on Discord, holy SHIT, fuck discord, god damn.), as despite what people say, there just aren't a lot internet trends that can be traced to some shadowy autistic rainbow illuminati, troon or not, I think they just saw something dumb they thought looked cool, and replicated it. But when it has merit, it fucking has MERIT, and for Neocities in particular, I genuinely do think it goes quite a bit deeper behind the scenes.

People are shaped by their environments, especially at a young age, and the differences in environments is night and day.
So who's shaping their modern environments? The continuing lack of any real sites for kids like there used to be is making this worse. (Also the lockdowns in 2020 really caused something of a shift online that looks bizarre looking back, there were a lot of impressionable people with nothing to do but be online at a time where this stuff was ramping up.)
