Because of the nature of progressive culture. As long as you are part of the group, you will be defended by people you don't even know about just because you are of that political persuasion. Its a hold-over from when progtards weren't the dominant force in culture. You can wrap yourself in the cloak of the virtuous and proudly say that you aren't like
those people. You can push your ideology so hard you disarm other people. Its a very easy group for predators to infiltrate. There have been cases where trans people in the SJW community have preyed upon others and it goes unreported because trannies are a protected class. Look how hard they defended an obvious pedophile, Sarah Nyberg, because he was transexual.
A lot of the times you see the women they prey upon just skirt around the edges of the community. They don't have the influence that the predator does, and the predator can easily wield their followers to disrupt any sort of allegations. Or the stature of the predator makes the women fear that they won't be believed or ousted from the group. Not to mention sexual assault for both men and women comes with a huge amount of personal shame that prevents you from talking about it. Sexual predators have long since known the best way to hide is to cloak yourself among the virtuous. It disarms people, gets them comfortable and you've got innate protection with people from the group to defend you.
The thing is that progressives would have defended these people in the past, but with the magnitude of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and the obvious hypocrisy of the progressives defending sexual predators exposed to pretty much everyone, it has basically become impossible for them to do so. Not to mention that its empowered a lot of people to overcome their innate fears and shame to expose other people. That's why you see this spontaneous combustion of many prominent male feminists and SJWs recently. Their group can no longer defend them and when allegations come, they are (rightfully) torn to pieces.
I hope some post-apocalyptic version of it survives, with tribes of suicidal furries and communist trannies trying to survive in a world without admins or mods. Some may talk about the mystical safe space over the horizon called Something Awful, but few dare make the trek because they heard tales of Lowtax being a white supremacist neo nazi.
Few dare because even NeoGafers aren't stupid enough to pay ten fucking dollars for a forums account in the year of our lord 2017.
That begs the question, what will happen when Neogaf inevitably dies?
Some people will try to start their own forum, it will fail. Others will flee to Reddit and Twitter. Others will curl up in a ball of tears because they no longer have a moderated safe space to fall back on. Everyone else will laugh and point and celebrate. SJWs will disavow.
