What amuses me is they were happy to follow FemFreq when Josh himself actually wrote the tweets. Once Anita started taking charge they suddenly noticed he's nuts and she's not the saint of all things woman. But here we are with them going "Uhh that other guy said some weird stuff didn't he???"

Being fair, is actually not that simple in the Hillary side if you consider some stuff revealed last week. And both candidates seem to be polarizing in their own political groups.

In any case, Gaf has a hardcore hard on about all stuff Hillary to the point of mods asking for donations. I am not a Trump fan by any means but is quite disturbing to see such devotion whe is admitted that they are selecting the "less shitty" candidate in their opinion.

What's popular with a plurality (not even a majority) of party members isn't what's popular with the public at large. Since it's just concept art and not a screenshot, we still have to wait until the game is released to know which slogan will make it into the final game.

I'd find this specific one okay if it's discreet/subtle and above everything else remains neutral.

As in, having protesters displaying it, if it makes sense in-universe, would simply mean that DE:MD creators chose to convey their story to their 2016 audience by drawing parallels to the real world.

However, considering what it's referencing is an ongoing struggle to end the frequent loss of many innocent lives, it could too easily remind a person (IRL victim, witness, etc) of such tragic stories, which is probably not what one would want when playing a game. Even if it's not the game's goal, it can hit where it hurts.

Just change it to "Augs Are Still Human" and it's all avoided. Anyone can be offended by anything, but reducing the chances to its minimum should be encouraged.

Still, if it's just an in-game sign, at least it doesn't convey any opinion on its own.

Now if suddenly there's a question such as "What do you think of the Augs Lives Matters movement?" and as Adam you're allowed to answer "Its existence is useless and it makes augmented people look bad", we'd be dealing with extremely negative social commentary that will impact people IRL, mocking the efforts of BLM, and that has no place in any kind of fiction.

Let's hope their story deserves such references and that they never step out of it.

So let me get this straight: Adam Jensen should, in a game about a social justice conflict between two grey-morality extremes should not be allowed to deride one of those extremes because it parallels BLM, a real world group.

Deus Ex will inevitably straddle the line between the human purity and human augmentation sides because it's a game that takes itself seriously and has both sides of the conflict bring up good points but be filled with overzealous assholes who ruin the conversation. If one side was just portrayed as nonstop shitheads it wouldn't be an interesting conflict. But instead that sad little poster just wants his fiction to support all his fragile presuppositions. BLM are saints and the main character of this video game can't have a bad opinion on them even through analogy.

I bet you that poster would have no problem with Adam Jensen being allowed to talk about how Purity First needs to quit going around killing good augs who dindunuffin when they are resisting arrest and trying to break police officers in two with their cyborg soldier arms.

I've been lurking here for a while, mostly reading the Phil threads, saw that I couldn't access them anymore and decided to register an account.

I've been a member of various iterations of GAF since the late 90s. NeoGAF has been through many iterations from IGN Snowball to EZBoards to Gaming Age directly and then to NeoGAF. There might be a phase or two I'm not remembering. I'm not proud that I've been a member for nearly 20 years but hey, it is what it is. For several years, I was a regular on the GAF IRC channel, which used to be the way Evilore (Tyler Malka) would pick new moderators and administrators. The IRC channel was a way for Evilore to hold court to see who would kiss his ass the best. Shamefully I kissed ass pretty hard and was almost rewarded for it as I was on a mod shortlist that got sent to me by someone who used to be administrator. This was nearly a decade ago, not sure how the procedure works now for new moderators and administrators.

The root cause of the board's decline into what it is now can solely lie on Evilore's shoulders. The board always leaned left but you were occasionally allowed to have a moderate or right wing opinion. However Evilore wants to turn NeoGAF into a multimillion dollar machine and one of the easiest ways to get there is to pander to the "acceptable" elements which is embracing full left wing social justice warrior politics. Evilore himself is quite conservative but he will put money ahead of his beliefs 10 times out of 10. He wants to be a multi-millionaire from GAF. However after several PMs with mods and admins that I know from way back, it seems like Evilore will fall very short of his dream. Not deterred, he still thinks that NeoGAF could be the central hub for gaming industry discussion.

About a decade ago, NeoGAF seemed to be on track. There actually was a decent gaming journalist and developer presence but in Evilore's determination to increase his revenue base, he often sided with trolls and low quality shitposters, which drove out those gaming industry elements. I'd say 2008 was the last year where there was a strong gaming industry presence on the board. Now it's the joke of the industry.

Another point to mention is that NeoGAF has always had a pedophile problem. The board had a knack for being a honeypot for some of the strangest people I saw hanging around video game forums. Debates about pedophiles vs. ephebophiles have been raging since at least the early 2000s. There is a key difference between then and now and that is when a pedo got outed in the past, the pedo was ridiculed. Now, the pedo is considered a victim and the moderators are more likely to protect the pedophile than ban him. It seems odd to me because the mods and admins get furious at NeoGAF being considered a pedophile haven. I consider pedophiles to be like cockroaches: if you see one, chances that's not the only one. There was an old section of the community boards about anime figurines that barely concealed what they thought about having sex with underaged girls. Community threads don't get policed very often since it's a group of cliques. The figurine community was discovered on a NeoGAF offshoot and the moderators had to take action. Banning the figurine thread of course didn't eliminate the problem, it just pushed it underground.

I have tons more stories that I can share. Long story short, NeoGAF is a joke. Looking at traffic stats, it seemed to have peaked in 2013 and has been on a SomethingAwful style decline ever since (slow and gradual yet noticeable). NeoGAF moderators and administrators are so quick with the banhammer (GAF term) that Evilore is irreparably ruining the forum by permabanning due to petty issues. Evilore in his early-mid 30s now. NeoGAF will probably give him a nice upper middle class income ($75-100k) for the next few years but its future is pretty grim overall. Like SA, I think the damage is irreparable and Evilore may have to look at getting a job by the time he is 40.
