He's better off Resetera, that goes without saying BUT.

That John from Digital Foundry is a clear lolcow. Why was he posting on Resetera in the first place ? Because it felt like home for him.

I could have understand if it was just a business move from him, but digital foundry is known and kind of respected across the web. Digital Foundry never needed Resetera (lol, who does really ?). If he was posting there, it's because he identified with those unhinged individuals. Well, who would have fucking thought that engaging with those people would backfire at the first "mistep" ?

On another note, IIRC the people from Digital Foundry were the last "big" vip posting on Resetera.

John was an active gaming side member on GAF prior to joining DF. He probably just followed the herd when Elf got #MeToo'ed. He has a productive career so that keeps his attention to the forum low and I doubt he spends much time browsing anything but the gaming side so it's understandable why a normal person could avoid a good percentage of the crazy.

I think he just continued to post because he wanted to drum up support for DF Retro videos, which due to their content obviously get a lot less attention than videos about recent releases. A forum full of aging, rabid enthusiasts is probably a good place to go if you want to build an audience for videos about games from the 16/32 bit era.

He assumed that his video would just go unnoticed, given the controversy over Ion Fury is over a year old at this point. And as crazy as that sounds, I think it was a fair assumption. Nobody cried over the scores that GameInformer and PCGamer and IGN gave to Ion Fury. Nobody demanded a disclaimer on videos or reviews about Shenmue 3, despite the fact just a little while prior to its release the forum was going berserk over the publisher's AMA on 8chan. I think you could have reasonably assumed that everyone's outrage had expired.

His real mistake was just acknowledging the whiners, trying to play to them. As THQ Nordic proved, if you just ignore your critics and move on quietly they will eventually find some other controversy to harp about.

I just don't want to be exposed to 24/7 bitching and moaning when nothing is going on. normal people just laugh at how brain dead they are and rightfully shit on them when they harass devs/companies.
When people get toxic to the point that they make an account dedicated to shitting on resetera stop what it's doing then maybe they need to reevaluate their life choices too.
