None of these people have any actual experience with the homeless. If the person has been kicked out of the shelter, it's probably because they're violent, a junkie, or both.

Offering to "help" the person is just going to make them stay and basically be a parasite.

Resetera has a very sanitized notion of homelessness. A certain percent of them are creepy and absolutely dangerous. I've heard too many stories of people who were raped, kidnapped, or killed by the homeless person they were trying to help. It's especially unfortunate for the ones who really are just down on their luck. Of course these guys see them all as "just victims of capitalism" or something. Think about it... that person on the guy's front porch could be Amir0x.

(Spoiler Alert: You've "never seen it not work" because you probably live in a gated community and never met a homeless person FFS).

There is no way most of these people have had any more contact with the homeless than stepping over them outside the train station.

Sometimes when I read their shit I have to remind myself of their polls showing they are in fact disproportionately wealthy middle-aged men, not kids.

Everyone in that thread who commented "help him" should be required to donate 5% of their income to OP's local shelter. If it's so easy and simple to just help a guy who was literally kicked out by the people whose job it is to help, surely the ResetEra posters should have no problem, right?

Actually, given how upper middle class most of them seem to be, that might actually be enough money to get this man the mental health/addiction/whatever counseling he (likely) needs. Not that any of the posters would stop jacking off their egos long enough to actually help anyone.
