The only boss I ever felt needed an easy mode was the goddamn capra demon, and that just because of how shitty it was that you got mobbed the instant you walk through the gate and before you can even see the enemies.

then I learned about the firebomb trick to kill him, and there’s nothing else really worth complaining about.

I think the people who hold up the games as some bastion of fairness where “every time you die it’s your fault” is crap, but I also think the people who act like the games are completely impossible to ever beat are also full of shit.

Yeah, that’s what I mean, when I learned about that trick, I no longer have any sympathy for people who say the game needs an easy mode, cause that trick eliminates the only part where I feel like the interface fucks you.

I think the games have some obnoxious tricks, and some of the fights are just unfair (Dark Souls 2 just mobs you sometimes) but it’s also something where you as a player get better, not just the character, and that’s really cool. It is a game where you get better at the specific encounters by repetition, but also get better at predicting what the game will do later because you learn to think like the game, and that’s really impressive.

So few games actually do that, and people who can’t handle that clearly are the same people who just play games to be spoonfed new things to see, whereas I will always remember the first time I saw Anor Londo, not just because it looks awesome, but because I remember everything it took to see it.

I can’t imagine mouse & keyboard being better than controller, but you could try. DS1 on PC needs DSFix, though. The game is a pretty notoriously bad port.
