Because they have the idea that if they don't personally like something then others shouldn't be allowed to interact with it, even if that makes no sense to anyone else and doesn't break any rules. "We're done here" is actually a response I've seen over the years from power hungry, controlling jannies who shut down an active thread but don't have an actual reason to do so.

I miss those days of the Internet. I miss the days where people could throw banter to each other and not get offended (because back then everyone knew if you call someone a faggot or any other slur out there it was usually in jest and it wasn't to be an asshole), people would post cursed and even cringy artwork on various fandom fourms and almost no one complained about "misogyny" or "objectifying women", and people knew that video games are just fun things to play and there was no reason to get overly political for that matter.

Those were the days and now you have people going apeshit over bug-eyed anime characters and if some video game makes fun of their Left-Wing ideals then.

I don't want this to be taken as an endorsement of mod behavior, but "We're done here" simply means "We are tired of reading this bullshit and don't want to moderate the thread anymore".
One idiot decided to dig their heels in, repeatedly assert their own warped version of events, and spend all night responding to any and every reply. Look at the second-to-last page: every 3rd post is just excelsiorlef sperging out, maniacally repeating whatever half-imagined details they gleaned from the advice letter. Completely unable to disengage or let anyone else have the last word, excelsiorlef just keeps responding over and over. The story presented in the letter is clearly made-up bullshit, so the moderators are forced with a decision to let an idiotic discussion over falsehoods continue indefinitely, or just nip it in the bud and cut off conversation. They're trying to save excelsiorlef from him/her/it-self.

In 2001 (when the GC and Xbox were brand new) EGM did a cover story comparing the two consoles and telling you which one was better. They picked the original Xbox over the Gamecube and said it was a better console. A year later they revisited it and changed their mind, saying the GC had way better games and the Xbox basically only had better hardware over it. No one gave a shit about this back then. I can imagine the screeching and meltdowns if the gaming media did this today. People somehow understood that there were different opinions back then and the gaming media wasn't as generic. I'm actually happy gaming magazines died before this culture took over gaming. The news stories in the magazines today would be about what games are the most sexist, why straight white males shouldn't be allowed to be featured as protagonists and why they're traumatized over being trash talked on an online game.

Why do their attempts at humor suck so badly? When someone actually makes a funny joke they don't understand it and get pissed off. There's a subreddit called Gamingcirclejerk (another community full of men in dresses) and it's full of completely unfunny leftist "humor". I also find it interesting that these people have an inability to laugh at themselves. Good comedians in the past would make fun of themselves and their own culture.
