So a new thread about Biden literally being Sleepy Joe gets made based on CNN/NYT articles, and it gets closed within an hour of OP. I'm now archiving the thread to preserve the contents, since the next level of coping could easily be them not just locking, but outright deleting, threads that say negative things about Biden. It's only 3 pages long.

However, the highlights of the thread are hilarious. Even ResetEra users are getting sick of this shit and pointing out that if it were Trump there would be no skepticism at all:

Why would you ban people for console warring on a fucking video game forum? Probably the most engaging thing about such a forum would be Sonyggers vs Nintentoddlers or whatever.

It is weird but the GAF staff have had a thing about console warring for a while. Yes, it's stupid, but letting people fight over consoles is something that could have kept GAF more active and the members online figure higher. Maybe the fighting affects Adsense though, which is why politics discussion was banned.

There's a similarly dumb rule on rpg.net about "edition warring" (D&D 3.5e vs D&D 5e, oWoD vs nWoD, etc), so I think it might have something to do with the fop-shitlib fake politeness mindset.

It's the decades later mutation of an older rule where this meant basically not derailing an entire thread to be about it. Like not going into a thread about a Halo announcement with "haha GAYLO look at all these PlayStation exclusives!" or "why would I want this when I can play Splatoon on my Nintendo Switch" and then pages of back and forth. But both there and Era it became a way for jannies to crack down with plausible excuses even though they've never wielded it consistently or fairly and use it to shut down discussions that nobody would consider Console Wars but have been reported by a bunch of console warriors. So basically like all their rules.

I love bringing this up with fags, but really all of the left-identitarian groups. To them, their interests are the argument. They appeal to their interests directly, with an expectation that you take those interests seriously. What if I just didn't? Is there any particular reason I ought to?

There is something to be said on this. Forums from like 20yrs ago all had these verbose codes of conduct and elaborate disciplinary procedures that read like some kind of nation-state's constitution. On the one hand, this was in some way virtuous because it betrayed how civically-minded forum users at the time were, but on the other hand, these documents were never actually followed and the real rule was always "don't piss off the mods." That includes this forum, to be clear, although the disposition of the mods here are less psychopathic than most forums today.

That's interesting because, unlike current year console wars where there's no difference. There are huge differences between RPG editions.

I don't even think it's fake politness, since these rules tend to only cut one way. Like all the constant derails whenever a Harry Potter game is mentioned.

I characterize it as fake politeness for this very reason. The rules aren't there to be enforced with any consistency. They're there so that they can denigrate you, find some reason to say you're the one being rude or out of line, and then clutch their pearls when you tell them to fuck off.
