I have to wonder how GAF will look by the next election, especially if Trump gets reelected.
Evilore is getting desperate enough to roll out Premium paid accounts. You'll have to wonder if it'll exist by then.

The place is in stagnation and obviously doesn't bring in as much cash as it used to. There's a bunch of threads by idiots not using adblock mentioning how predatory and shitty the ads there are getting.

It continues to hold to being a "cool kids club" despite having driven everyone away. Our gaming forum here on the Farms is more respectable.

Evilore is rapidly approaching the Sunk Cost moment, or perhaps he's already past it. Best thing to do would be to purge it all and move on with his life, but he hasn't done that yet and so he probably won't until it becomes a ghost town.

They hate Linkle because the great Anita and her male feminist cohorts say she's:
a. "Ms. Male Character"
b. Not actually a female Link
c. Fights differently
d. Is cute

Having enjoyed the luxurious amount of extra time that comes with a NeoGAF ban, I had to find another way of wasting said times instead of being productive and what better way to waste ones time than to play a Warriors game? Well, not exactly my thoughts, but the same effect, anyway. So, I have played through Hyrule Warriors Legends on Nintendo 3DS (yes, old model, yes, framerate is shit, but the map screen is lag free and almost all enemies can be defeated by (B-B-B-A)* anyway), including the five new missions based around Linkle, the new female Link-look-alike. However, even though I am notoriously not one to beg for a female Link (and please, I don't intend to discuss the importance of one either way in this thread; hard to keep out of ones own threads ;)), I was insulted by Linkle's writing. Of course, if you are interested in Hyrule Warriors Legends' story and don't want to be spoiled, do not read on and leave the thread.

The whole story about Linkle is
(1) Even though she runs around with a map and a compass, she is completely incapable of finding her way,
(2) Obviously, even though she's given numerous options, fighting alongside Hyrule's warriors, she's also unwilling to ask for the way, so either she does not even recognise she has no orientation whatsoever, or she is to proud to ask - neither is particularly clever
(3) The only other thing we get to know of her is that she is convinced she is someone special. In a prickish way. While Link always seemed quite humble about being told he's the legendary hero, Linkle cannot get herself to stop shouting to the world she is the legendary hero because her granny told her so. Maybe she is, the game doesn't exactly say either way, but she certainly is outspoken about it.

I think her very victory animation is a culmination of her whole story line:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=id=oXYx7Zxt310;t=502After every mission (bar the final one, where she somehow reaches Hyrule Castle) she has won, she looks at her map, making strange (and rather stupid sounding) noises, then points in the wrong direction and runs with a convinced "josh" into said direction. Even if we take the signpost just as a visual cue that she is running into the wrong direction and not an actual signpost, this is rather annoying. I'm not quick to complain about sexist depiction of characters in games, but Linkle is... well, I hope I'll never see her again. And if we do, then make it a labyrinth game. A hard one.

Transgender 101: A Starter Guide
Hey GAF. As a transgender woman, it’s hard not to see ignorance and bigotry sometimes. I won’t claim to be representative of every trans person, or anyone who identifies outside of the gender binary. I do hope that this thread can help to inform you if you have questions about the trans experience, or just want to hear another perspective.

What is this transgender thing, anyway?
I’ll start with a definition, because it is better than anything I could come up with myself. Merriam-Webster defines “transgender” as “of, relating to, or being a person whose gender identity differs from the sex the person had or was identified as having at birth”. That’s all fine and good: now you know the definition of the word. But what does that mean? When someone says “I’m transgender”, what are they truly saying? To me, it’s this: when I was 16, I had a realization. For all those years, I never wanted to date the girls I was into- I wanted to be them. Well, I did want to date them, but sexuality is an entirely different issue.

Wait, sexuality is different from being transgender?
Yes. To explain this simply, gender identity =/= sexual identity. A transwoman can be a lesbian, or bisexual, or asexual. The same way a non-binary person can be pansexual or a cisgender person can be straight. I mention this because it seems to be a common misconception. There are multiple reasons I hypothesize this happens: be it TERF propaganda about autogynephilia (the idea of being sexually aroused as a man by the thought of being a woman), or the simple fact that trans people are grouped under the LGBT+ umbrella. Again, a topic for another time, but GSM (gender and sexual minorities) is a much better term, in this humble poster’s opinion. It is both less exclusionary and clarifies better the identities it is speaking about.

TERF? Like, surf and turf?
Trans-exclusionary radical feminists, or TERFs, are a branch of pseudo-feminists who view trans individuals as mentally ill men and women who undermine the feminist movement are reinforce gender roles as a concept. They are, in short, regressionary at best. And at times, they are just as dangerous a group as the conservatives we all know and don’t love. Hell, at times, they are the same thing.
Wow, that all sounds terrible. What can I do to help transgender awareness and stop bigotry?
Well, by asking that question, you’ve taken the first step. Good for you. Now, I’ll defer to another poster who has compiled a list of agencies and actions that I find to be excellent.

If anybody wants to offer critique or add to this OP, feel free to PM me. I would be completely open to that and as I said, I am by no means an authority.

Is (insert thing here) transphobic?
Typically, I wouldn't use the "if you have to ask" argument, but here, you likely are being unintentionally transphobic. If you misgender someone, you are being transphobic. Especially if it is on purpose. Transgender people have a right to being identified by their preferred name and pronouns: including shitheels like Caitlyn Jenner.

Final
I’ll be honest here: GAF has a transphobia problem at times. For a place that, truly, is one of the most liberal and moderated forums on the internet, it does feel as though certain groups are “favored” in discussions over others. This is not an indictment of the mods, or the users. This is my feeling, and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. It’s a statement of fact. Trans people are ignored here for the most part. It feels like yelling into a void at times. So, in closing, I ask this: if you truly, deeply care about being liberal, about uplifting the underprivileged and giving a voice to the voiceless, show it. Oppose transphobia. Oppose homophobia, and racism, and the types of privileged perspectives that we so often see when discussing minority politics. Most of all, be decent. Be a good person.

This is currently on its second page. I'd usually read it and present some highlights but I had a late lunch today and I want to keep it down.

Colin Moriarty shows his support for International Women's Day
Yes, ladies and gentleman, the day ends with a Y, and Colin Moriarty is being a prick again!

Ah. Peace and quiet.

#ADayWithoutAWoman

Now, this is not an outrage thread, or anything like that- that's very plainly what he was going for with this shitty little gag, and I don't really want to give him the satisfaction. It does beg the question, though- is this really where we're at with the wider video games journalism scene? This is a man who's ostensibly one of the biggest, most influential names on the scene, and he's cracking jokes that would have been shitty and sexist in the 50s. Considering the influence that this guy has, shouldn't we want better out of him?

He's an asshole. Nothing new.
i cannot believe the libertarian is a big pile of human garbage!!!!!!!!! how could he
A bunch of people going to come in here crying: "It's just a joke! You guys need to lighten up!"

And it is a joke, but to quote Alex Navarro of Giantbomb's Twitter:

a cool thing about jokes is that what kind of joke a person likes to tell tends to speak volumes about what kind of person they are
He thinks he's funny. Quite the opposite.
And some people still wonder why the gaming scene has a misogyny problem

Colin has been insufferable for what feels like ages now

Really dissapointing that many higher ups at Sony choose to keep having a close relationship with Colin when he's continually saying shit like this
He's genuinely a simpleton. We've known this from his IGN days.
It's like every time he opens his mouth he's a bigger piece of shit. It's a shame people actually think he has good things to say.
I already had a very low esteem of him, it now has reached its lowest point.
He's a jackass and I will never read or watching anything he touches.

Oh no, he made a joke on Twitter! That literally killed tens of thousands of women! Donate to Planned Parenthood today!

In other words, Linkle's creation didn't take something away (Male Link) from straight male gamers. That's all they actually care about when they push this "change popular characters" shit.

Even if Link showed up as an actual gay or female character next game, it's not going to erase or delete the history of games before it, just like how Lara Croft's breast reduction didn't erase or delete the previous Tomb Raider games from history.

That 'take things away from straight male gamers' idea is dumb as shit.

This whole thing is a witch hunt against Colin and the Politically Correct police. The gaming community is overwhelmingly liberal and I have heard posts on here claiming that Colin should "shut up about his political beliefs." Oh, so now only liberal beliefs are welcomed in the gaming community? So the other half of the country who doesn't identify with liberal, feminists, what have you are somehow irrelevant and crazy-persons?

Dude made a Joke and we have heard far worse on their podcasts and no one made a stink about it when it comes from Greg or Tim because they don't share Colin's political stance. Feminism is not about equality anymore, it is about man hating and women are leaving the feminist party in droves.

Here are some stats for you.53% of Americans – both men and women – reject the feminist label, while 26% say they are feminists. Among only women, 32% say they are feminists, while 45% reject the label. Of the men surveyed, 19% said they are feminists, while 61% say they are not.

I am sure if some people had their way on here every game character would be an adopted black transgender orphan from Bali with a lesbian lover who used to be a man.

Continue on with your witch hunt against Colin... seems to work everywhere else in the U.S. when you attack conservatives. They just end up winning elections.

Strange how the objectification of women and spank bait bullshit that's so common in Japanese games seems to be getting something of a pass for this game in particular. I wonder why no one seems to be mentioning it at all this time.

Thread: Unique ways you save money.

Thread: I think I misled someone into thinking I'm gay, and wanted to go out with them.

I'm not a very good judge on who is and who isn't gay. I am, however, always completely comfortable with my sexuality, to the point that I don't care who thinks what of me or what I am into. I always joke around with my friends by sending heart emojis, and saying I love you, doing things like that. I am always friendly af, and am not afraid to be "not manly", or act like some tough guy. With that in mind.

I met this dude through my girlfriend, we all went out a few times, getting drinks, having fun. We end up hitting it off, and he likes to play WOW, so I linked up with him online. We have been cool for a couple months, and he seemed just the way I am. Acting like we're in to each other in guild chat to make people laugh (since he streams sometimes), like when one of us does something good in game the reaction is something like "That was sexy", or "That's my man" or "That turned me on" etc. along those lines. I was 100% just playing around and being friendly.

Fast forward to about a week ago. I'm in chat with him and another 2 people. We're drunk streaming, and he asks "So when we going steady, Ray?" and I replied jokingly "Any time you want to"

So..

He leaves chat, and invites me to a private chat. I hesitantly go in, wondering what was about to occur.

He says "Dude, are you serious, because I'm down."

me:

I'm still not sure if he's joking, because that seemed like the guy he was, alwaaays joking, and pushing it a little too far at times.. But I didn't want to hurt his feelings if not. So I say, "I'm sorry man, I don't know what to say, but I'm not really into that if you're really being serious"

To which he replies, "What the fuck dude, you can't be leading me on like that."

I'm like, "I'm not sure what's happening, but I gotta go to bed."

So, I tell my girl this, and she says something to her friend (which is good friends with the dude I'm talking about), and her friend says that he's either gay or tries to convince people that they're gay/out them for the fun of it.

I still don't know if I was really leading him on, or he was messing with me. I don't know whether to feel bad, or feel like he's still joking. Keep in mind, I know that he's had a crush on my girl's friend forever. This partly attributed to making me comfortable enough to joke around with him because I figured I wouldn't be leading him on. I don't want to do that.

What do yinz think?

Thread: Has anyone here eaten glitter before?

Thread: I'm losing a friend to our divisive political climate & I don't know what to do.
Sorry, this is a bit of a long rant, but here it goes.

I think it's natural and healthy to have friends who hold differing views and opinions. Last thing I'd ever want is to be in some stifling, self-affirming echo-chamber. But, there are some issues that I believe are an absolute non-starter when it comes to having "differing views" on.

My friend is comparatively more conservative than I am, and for over a decade, this hasn't been an issue. We've spent a lot of time together, bonded, and grown close. The super polarized political climate we're in though, has exacerbated and shed light on some "views" that I simply cannot respect as merely a "different but equally valid opinion." Here's a sampler of some of these "different , equal views" :
  • Black Lives Matter = Black Supremacist Movement

    • There are ZERO instances where Cultural Appropriation is a real, valid issue or concern
    • Championing Trans-rights was a mistake and cost Democrats the election
    • Women who are in mid-transition, or haven't fully transitioned yet shouldn't be allowed to use the women's restroom
    • The pushback at Milo for speaking at a university is an attack on free speech
    • Liberals are hypocrites for body-shaming Anne Coulter when she showed up to Rob Lowe's Roast
    • Hillary is a criminal that should be locked up
    • Calling the Alt-Right "Nazis" is offensive to Jews as it "dimishes" the gravity of crimes that "real" nazis committed
    • Obama flamed the "black suprmacist" and "anti-cop" flames of BLM by openly condeming the shootings of black people, without also putting out a statement that defends cops
  • Anti-abortion Christians have their religious rights compramised as they're forced to live with the "killings" of fetuses

Etc, etc.

I've made it clear that I consider "opinions" such as these completely invalid and devoid of any real merit or worthiness. As far as I'm concerned, these are ideas that do not deserve to be entertained or legitimized in any formal venue or capacity. I think less of someone if they spew this stuff. This, apparently makes me "intolerant" or "close minded."

At this point, I always avoid any sort of a political topic with such company, but even if we never discuss politics again, I'm having a hard time reconciling such deeply fundemental differences in values with friendship. I feel like I'm being incredibly small and emotionally immature to allow differences to cause such a wedge, but I think it's always gonna be an underlying issue. I'm at a loss at how someone super witty, smart and intelligent (frankly someone I consider to be smarter than I am) can hold such backwards views.

What do I do gaf? How do I salvage this friendship?

Thread: My coworker thinks I'm stalking her because I found her home address on a website

A few months ago I started a new job and before I finished training a young woman who knew me for less than a few minutes of small talk asked "Do you have a girlfriend?", something at the time I took for a signal. The next day I said we should grab food and gave her my number.

The next day I found a website that taught me finding information about people doesn't take even the hours or creditcard info I thought it did :

https://floridaresidentdb.com/

Apparently you can find someone's email, phone number, date of birth, which political party they're associated and home address. I was curious who I could find and search myself, my roommate, my cousin in the same apartment complex as me, my mom and even a few coworkers. The only one I couldn't find was my mom curiously, with most having their home address.

Today in free time the same girl asked my birthday, to which I said July, she said hers too, and I said I know since - while her address never even registered in my brain more than a half second - i retained "Oh same birth month".

Sharing how I got that information didn't go well when moments later in the bathroom she goes to a coworker "You wouldn't believe what Jaded just did : Before he asked me out and now he's stalking me."

...

I don't even think about this girl.
Clearly "Do you have a girlfriend?" was awkward small talk.

...

I can see it's shit on Dubai day today, and honestly I even support the reasons for it and find what happened as abhorrent as you all do, but some people here are more consumed with sarcastic comments and just plain shitposting instead of having any sort of constructive criticism.

I'll just copy paste what I wrote in the other thread, because this thread ended up delving into what every thread about Dubai does, which is that it's a shithole that no one should ever go to.

"I wasn't going to post a reply in this thread because I know what trajectory with threads about Dubai usually end up taking, and I sometimes don't trust my own input since it might be biased, considering I pretty much live there, or at least 10 minutes away from there.

Now before I say anything, I agree Dubai has a lot of issues that need to be addressed to avoid many disgusting human right violations. The rape victims that were imprisoned make my blood boil with rage to this very day, as well as some of the inhumane conditions that some workers are forced to live in just because the higher ups know that they can get away with it, and they know that these workers won't complain too much about it since it's much worse for them in the countries they came from.

Women rights in UAE is in a good place and it will only get better I hope. LGBTQ rights on the other hand are nowhere near satisfactory or you could even say they don't exist.

With all that being said DOWN, I am a local in UAE who don't mind one bit what your sexual orientation is, and the only way for you here to suffer for it would be to flaunt it publicly, which even a straight couple would suffer from since the culture here as well as the law don't like PDA that much, unfortunately.

If your aim is to improve human rights, in your specific case for LGBTQs, then you're going to do more good by actually traveling here than thinking it's too low of a place for you to travel to.

I'm a local muslim who was raised in a conservative family, but how do you think I got my values and beliefs so warped compared to the general population here? It's because I met good people, with whatever sexual orientation they have, whatever country they came from, online or otherwise.

Come to UAE and I'll make it my personal mission to make you have a good time and meet good people(although try to wait a bit until I get employed, in here when we have a guest, we want him to be treated like a king, financially or otherwise, one of the good points of our culture :P).

By interacting with people and showing what kind of person you are, you're more likely to influence a positive change, and show that human decency doesn't hinge on sexual orientation or what country you come from. You could end up interacting with a righteous person in a high place in the country that can actually fight for the changes that you wish to see in Dubai. That would help a lot more than boycotting Dubai and advocating for people to do the same.

Contrary to your belief as well, we do have culture here that you would enjoy and appreciate, and there are a lot of gay people here living comfortably with no fear even with some of the retarded laws, but obviously with no PDA(like any other couple really).

I'm not asking you to come live here and I even understand why you wouldn't, but you coming here as a visit will only have you leaving with a positive net outcome. Good memories and maybe influencing ignorant people even if it's a little bit towards a better kind of change.

Dubai's aim is to be a tourism hub and not depend on oil whatsoever, and it's still technically a baby that just learned to crawl. I strongly believe that it will only get better because by being a tourism hub it means it's attracting the world's attention, which would mean disgusting human right violations will have more awareness and as a result hopefully disappear in time.

So if you ever change your mind buddy, know that I wouldn't mind meeting up with you and hanging out, and hopefully in the process show you that it isn't as bad as you think, figuratively speaking :). "

NeoGAF already has a reputation in some online games while they receive negative feedback for their delusional bullcrap. For example: FFXIV.

As long as they see themselves as part of an upper crust gaming elite (lol), they'll stick with their ultra left wing authoritarian hugbox, thank you very much.
On top of that they've driven away pretty much anyone that was ever in "the industry" that was ever a member.
