Games sales numbers are spotty at best, but Wikipedia has Splatoon at 4.83 million as of June '17, and Halo 5 at 5 million as of June '16, three months after launch.

Though I'm sure if you went off a ratio to the install base, Splatoon would be a success beyond anyone's wildest dreams. 5 million sales is more than a third of all WiiU's having a copy of the game.

It might happen this time - I could see Halo 6 selling less than Splatoon 2, especially with the Switch doing it's thing. And I'd consider it a safe bet that Splatoon 3 will absolutely destroy Halo 7, if Halo even makes it that far.

Consider development costs and Nintendo may have easily made way more money then Microsoft did on Halo 5.
Also first in a series versus number of an established series and Splatoon looks like it will make bank each time. Say what about Nintendo what you will they do know how to pump out a winner every now and again that prints money.

Not may have, definitely did. Nintendo said that they'd consider Splatoon a huge success if it sold 500k lifetime. It did ten times better than that. Budgeting is one area Nintendo is way better than any other developer at. Compare that to Resident Evil 6, which sold 4 million copies its release year and still managed to put Capcom in the red for the fiscal year. I'd be shocked if Halo 5 made more money than Splatoon did.

Does NeoGaf even have any influence in Japan? Not the localization market, but Japan itself?

I love how NeoFag devotes 30 page threads to completely stupid shit like this and the Blue Reflection swimsuit DLC despite the fact that it's completely tame compared to most of the other shit Japan puts out. Imagine your life being so devoid of substance that you'd spend your free time whining to other losers about how this culture halfway across the globe you have no control over is too perverted for your liking. If only they could find some sort of hobby instead, like maybe if the website could offer them some sort of singular focus to devote their time to so they'd have something else to do besides the endless virtue-signal circlejerking.
