The replies are pretty wild. I won't go through screencapping them all because I'd end up capping most of the thread, but there's many who seem to think the OP is talking about Gamers™ and not the forum specifically. There's some ban bait in there,

The dog-piling is a weird and uniquely Era thing I feel like, or at least it was never a thing on other forums I've used in the past. I can never tell if it's because people here just don't read through threads first to see if someone's already been quoted, or if people just like getting in on a dog pile. idk. I don't like it either.

I'd also note that I've seen an uptick of many just itching for a fight, like they're looking for things to get mad about...something, anything. Makes the forum feel incredibly toxic at times.

The increasing prevalence of cancel culture and higher likelihood of pointless outrage threads that get locked for being ill-conceived makes this place worse than GAF was, and more toxic in general. As others have said, the ignore function does much to mitigate the mood on the site.

I have a few key rules for my ignore list:

- If you make a dumb thread that gets locked
- Any "cancel culture" shitstainery (see: the mass bannings around Etika's death)
- Shitposting in threads about things you will never buy
- Outrage thread that's all anger, little substance
- Dumb attempts to gotcha or start arguments
- Derailing threads with list warzzz
- Bigotry
- Combative, toxic behavior or stances toward other users


Be your own moderator, OP; it does much to change the way you experience this community. Every time I go into a thread and decide to show all ignored content, threads get markedly worse. That's how I know it works. I have around 250 people ignored and zero regrets about silencing other people from "enriching" my site experience with their "contributions."
