Seriously, what is the difference between Resetera and ol' fashioned lynch mobs? They act nearly identical. Back in the day they would accuse a black man of any wrongdoing that happened in the town, with faulty evidence and no real chance for him to plead his case. The black man was presumed guilty for the smallest slight because that's how the white folk stayed in power in the South...through demonization of the other.

Resetera does the same thing. Some random developer has a different political opinion on a single subject (like deciding your child is trans at birth is a bad thing), and then his reputation gets torn to shreds as they work to bring him down in every possible avenue, from Steam review bombing to news articles to Twitter attacks to death threats. He has no chance to plead his case, just like the black man in the 1910's. He is immediately the scourge of the earth and deserves to have his life ruined at every possible opportunity.

Any rational and reasonable person can easily see how this call to violence over a difference in political opinion is absolute insanity.

1. There's nothing logical about mob mentality. It's pretty much all instinct-based.
2. And if you take libertarian thought to its logical conclusion you end up with "it depends on the child" and deploying tactical nukes against the neighbor for violating the NAP by sneezing in your general direction, every ideology goes to some fucky, ugly places if you follow them to their "logical conclusions". Reera is like Stormfront: people there foam out crazy political opinions that frequently go into "kill those who disagree" territory, but they never actually do anything because they're too busy foaming about it to actually by a shitty HK and head to the local synagogue.

None of these assfucks are legitimately capable of violence. Their culture glorifies personal weakness and learned helplessness, so in general none of them are capable of actually doing anything that isn't Autistic screeching on social media. A lot of what they do is a race to the lowest common denominator, with a level of hubris that often makes Stormfags look subdued by contrast.

The thing about RetardEra's userbase and these shithead offensives is that they could only leverage them effectively with three very specific qualifiers in place:

1. That they had the help of their Autistic friends in the gaming press that could shore up their offensives. This would let them fan the flames of outrage.
2. That the mainstay SocJus community on Twitter picks up the ball and helps signal boost. None will pay attention if too many of them are shrieking about Orange Man being Bad, so having the bigger Social Justice community help out is essential.
3. That they had actual game devs on their fucking shithole website. This gave them something distantly resembling legitimacy.

The thing is, they lost #3 when they moved to ERA from GAF - and devs talk, so people know that GAF has banned the few devs foolish enough to remain on their platform for not licking sufficient taint for ERA's liking. The progressive gaming press is falling apart, and the mainstream SocJus community on Social Media is too busy chimping out over random bullshit to give much of a shit about ResetERA.

For all intents and purposes, they've been defanged, and can only leverage a fraction of the punch they used to. Only by getting one of the big dogs in the outrage sphere to disengage stealth mode do they have any hope of maintaining the Autism war machine they used to be able to manage.

It's actually relatively uncommon for new games to be made on old engines, even after said engines become open source. Usually "retro influenced" FPSes will be made on modern engines (Strafe, Doom 2016) or modern engines trying to imitate older engines (Dusk, DOOM for the Nintendo Switch). To complicate matters, many studios won't even sell you licenses to old engines or will make it a pain in the ass to get a license (the Unreal Engine comes to mind). With the rise in using off the shelf engines and the "write once, click to export anywhere" philosophy to game development using old engines hasn't been too common.

I remember Call of Duty was using the Quake 3 engine for years. I think they said that it was more or less all rewritten at some point, but you could still see the idTech licence mentioned here and there.

The steam review bombing is fucking failing along with any attempts at review bombing metacritic.

According to Steam, since ResetEra decided to start review bombing, there have been 22 negative reviews. Even if we assume that they're all ResetEra, that's pathetic.

One can bet those review bombs managed to also get some comments going against their circlejerk.

Most have disabled comments (imagine my shock) but the few that didn't are going exactly as you'd expect. Look at the ratings they are getting.

Also, Ion's using a tweaked version of Build that ups the graphics a bit, more complex color palette, more dynamic lighting, "smarter" sprite interaction, more frames of animation when sprites are destroyed, etc.

But it is amazing it's still fundamentally a Build engine game.

Yeah, it has an MP3 player in it instead of an AM band radio, and we rebuilt the transmission with a more aggressive aftermarket shift kit, and it's got an LS1 in it with a performance-tuned FI chip, not a 350 with a carb, but, other than that, it's a 66' Chevy II Nova.... lets go cruise with it!

Nobody that matters cares. Games' sales aren't affected by sad pisscucks' rants against (alleged) transphobia on Steam, because trans-trenders are nothing more than a vocal minority. Gamers will play whatever games they like, and most of the time they're unaware that somewhere on the Internet emasculated soyboys are crying because muh tranz. ResetERA as a whole is like the Internet version of those dumb pooches who impotently bark at anyone passing near them: people will just take a step back, realize they pose no threat and walk on.

Nearly none. I think the main thing is how much they delight in violent rhetoric against their enemies, easily demonstrating that they think of anyone against them as less than human. They do the exact thing they accuse their opponents of, which is expected as this point because hypocrisy is a centerpiece of any good echo chamber like ResetEra. Same with how they react to violent language from their enemies, because it's only OK when they do it.

But I would say that the only reason they're not more dangerous is because they're very loud but very few, and also very lazy. As you point out, they want action, but they lionise the inability to get anything done.

Not just the publishers of this game, but really all publishers, I'd love to have this information. Just have a plaque up somewhere - or I suppose the modern equivalent, a pinned tweet - they can refer to constantly. So every time somewhere like ResetEra tries to mount a protest, it can be pointed to to show just how few people actually react to these 'controversies', versus how many ignore or even become more interested in the game because of the devs not kowtowing to the REEEEEEEEing.

It would hasten the spread of Get Woke Go Broke. Though it might lead to companies creating outrages they then performatively ignore or support just so the same dozen or so people who weren't going to buy the game in the first place get so mad they keep giving them free publicity. Which would be funny in a, 'look at their increasingly impotent rage!' kind of way, but it's wearing to still have to point out to people that, no, the outrage is a crock of shit, just because someone says something is offensive doesn't make it true.

One was of an anime artist in Brazil who's Twitter was full of Fire Emblem stuff and "problematic" content, so unlikely. The other was this:
