Oh, my hell yes on Ion Fury. Finally, some good news to start my week. And the fallout has been predictably glorious. Yummy busybody tears can feed a man for days.

There are a number of issues to contend with: 3DR listening to REE in the first place, the charity donation, and this being purely a business decision to surface a ship midway to the ocean's bottom.

But unlike the average REE poster, I am forgiving. I shall add this back to my wish list. Of course, I'll wait for a sale...

So bending over backwards to please REEsetera was the publisher 3D Realms, saying "Fuck Censorship" is the developer Voidpoint Games. Fun fact the guy who is in the center of this controversy, "terminx" is the creator of EDuke32 (the oldest and best way to play Duke Nukem 3D on modern systems) and founder of Voidpoint Games.

So just think about this thru teminx's perspective. I'm not him but I can only assume he spent a lot of his freetime organizing and coding a free sourceport. It surely hasn't been easy but it's a passion project. There's been hurdles along the way including a whole Duke Nukem 3D Licensing Shitstorm. Finally you move ahead and take 3D Realms up on the offer of building a whole new original game centered around their silly character Bombshell. A few years of hardwork later you're being labelled a fucking transphobe for a brief off the cuff remark on a chatroom and now unfuckable goons on Resetera are dreaming of ways to harm your work and livelihood.

At the end of the day I'm rather biased because I like old school FPS but I don't see how you don't see teminx as the hero in all this.

The vast majority of ReeeEra-style reviews for Ion Fury are people who bought the game, booted it up, then wrote a review just to stab at the devs. You have to really dig to find anybody who's actually played for more than an hour:

This is the longest playtime I could find for a negative review on the ReeeEra side, 28 hours played. He considered it a 10.10 game, but had to update his review to downvote it as transphobic, and gets roasted in his comments:

At the very least I admire that he had 30 reviews, meaning he actually does it normally rather than just to review-bomb politically.

Everything else is pretty shit, people wasting their limited refund opportunities to buy a game they don't like for an opportunity at a writing assignment to ever-so-slightly nudge a rating from "Awesome" to "Very Good".

Resetera doesn't (and never did) have that much influence to begin with. They don't buy games themselves (so their "boycotts" are useless) and their limited influence comes from having journalist and a few developer friends posting there and lending a sympathetic ear to their whining.

Literally everyone outside Resetera hates them, even the journalists who huff their farts because it's easy clickbait and the few developers left who loiter there looking for woke points. Resetera has actively chased off (and/or banned) plenty of these would-be allies, too, which burns bridges and further extinguishes their waning influence. Not to mention they're devouring themselves with constant bans of their own members. I think they've banned about 25% of all users who've ever registered at this point?

The only reason they have any apparent success in getting games censored and people banned/fired is their ability to get hacks to write clickbait articles and their willingness to yell and scream for long periods of time (to an autistic degree) at people they suspect will just cave to shut them up rather than just say "fuck off, idiots" and endure another couple of days of screaming before the mob gets distracted elsewhere.

Without exception, every developer who's told these people to pound sand has met with financial (and usually critical) success when they launch their products. Also without exception, every developer who's caved to these people's demands has suffered a backlash from their real customers and the added insult of those same screeching assholes saying "well, good, but I'm still not buying your game." That can only really happen once per developer, and Resetera's running out of developers to target who haven't learned their game by now.

I bought the game too.

It's a pretty sad state of affairs frankly but in 2019 if a Triple A western developer comes out with a new or rebooted IP and has a female protagonist it should be sending off warning bells in your brain. 99.9% likely they are trying to market towards the Reeee types.

At least Control looks like a good game overall though, has that going for it compared to something like Youngblood.
