Its not covering the slavery, it's about trying to have a narrative where the south doesn't have to be totally bad and thus southerners do not have to be completely ashamed of the conflict. People today will generally agree that slavery was wrong, but then argue that slavery was only one part (not the largest) of the war. By making the conflict ambiguous instead of black and white, the psyche is not so wounded.

Because reality is not ambiguous and white and black (right and wrong) is always clear regardless of social and individual context... I mean, slavery is awful and the south states were awful (if some stuff that is teached in the history in my country that is neighbour from the US is half truth) but politics are way more complicated than that. Not even the WWII was just "Hitler is an ass, lets get him ".

Generally speaking, the people that get taken advantage from in armed conflicts (or politics to a great extent) are useful idiots with black and white mentality .

Badgering people over sources is actually a really common tactic NeoGAF posters use to avoid actually discussing certain things. Reading through that thread it looks like they outright ban links to some sources as well? Someone apparently mentions a banned source but it just shows up as "********". I wonder if anyone has ever been banned for mentioning that that pattern of behavior is a logical fallacy.

It boggles my mind that there are thousands of people willing to doxx themselves to post there. You're giving personal information to a man who admitted to sexually assaulting someone so a bunch of pedo-apologist mods can tell you what words to use and what websites to read.

At the time, Opiate (mod that worked in Toy'n R us while posted apoligisms to REAL LIFE pedophiles , had a gallery of artistc photos of children labeled with XXX and told a female rape victim to shut up) is still missing after being demoded .
