The amusing thing about the Reagan posts in that thread is that they're, as always, ignorantly ahistorical. The Reagan tax cuts were nothing like the later W. Bush and Trump tax cuts nor the H.W. Bush, Clinton or Obama tax increases. They weren't tiny changes around the margins passed on party lines, they were bipartisan massive overhauls of the aging and highly exploited tax code. "Reagan" cut the top rate from 70% to 28% and every rate below that, the number of tax brackets was reduced from hundreds down to three, tons of loopholes were erased, millions of people were dropped out of the income tax completely for not making enough. Compliance in the upper brackets shot through the roof which is why they were able to claim that tax cuts led to more revenue, because they did even had the economy not improved. Why spend money to move all your assets overseas and hide your profits if you can simply keep things in America and pay the lower rates? This was the same reasoning that led Clinton to later do a bipartisan cut of the capital gains tax in the late 1990's.

What's extra funny is that all the countries they often claim to be objectively better than the United States (Canada, Scandinavia, etc.) because they're more "socialist" did the same exact thing and often under Social Democrat/Labour/etc. parties. Simplified tax codes with overall lower rates was a worldwide phenomenon in the 1980's and 1990's even if few countries cut tax rates as much as the United States did. (Some like Estonia went further.)

The repeatedly stated idea in that thread that people aren't better off 40 years later is totally insane even if "Reagan" had nothing to do with it, look at everything we have now that we didn't, look at how poverty worldwide has collapsed, etc. Certain people within a very specific definition having lower shares of a larger pie than the 1950's is not a problem, get over it ya dumb First World troons.

Resetera is currently getting worked up over the trucker convoy protest happening in Ottowa, Canada. Truckers are pissed off at lockdowns and vaccine mandates and have shown up in their trucks to protest, along with the horde of people who support them.

To Resetera, these people are MAGA nazis, because that's the only way they can process any debate. But the funny part is they're PISSED that somebody is protesting for a cause they disagree with, and they want the cops to show up and stop it all.

After all their BLM support, they don't even get the irony.

The best part is the trucker protest has been peaceful and clean. They haven't been trashing the city like BLM would. I'm watching hopefully to see what the protest accomplishes, and a bit disappointed in the U.S. for not doing this first.
